| Remembering the Alumni Reunion |
More than 170 people attended this year's GHS Alumni Reunion. The Class of 1960 was honored, and Nancy Tate Fallness was named the Alumni of the Year. GHS Alumni President Billy Evans was honored for his numerous contributions to the alumni association. The Groveland Historical Museum stayed busy with lots of visitors throughout the morning session. There were several special displays, including one honoring GHS alumni and pro basketball star Austin "Red" Robbins. There also was a photo exhibit of all the past homecoming queens (as seen above). UF phenom Jeff Demps' national championship jersey also was on display, thanks to Demps' adopted father and Tony Turner, Demps' Pop Warner Coach and GHS alumni. Cookie Stewart Beard and Jerry Beard are pictured at the 2010 GHS Alumni Reunion. Jerry was the president of the Class of 1960, which was being honored on its 50th anniversary. |

GHS Alumni News

The Groveland Historical Society worked with the Lake County School System to create a commemorative plaque that will be placed at the north side of the Gray Middle School campus before it reopens in August. The aluminum plaque is 42 inches wide and 38 inches high. One side includes the history of the school; the other side has a photo and the words to the alma mater. Gray Middle School's new $45 million campus will make it the most expensive middle school in the county, the only middle school with an auditorium and the second most expensive school in the system.
