NEW Museum Displays in Bank and City Hall

TOP (left to right) CenterState Bank teller Gale Hockin and Branch Manager Joe Reyes stand in front of the new display of museum artifacts in the bank lobby. BOTTOM Groveland City Clerk Teresa Begley stands beside museum artifacts on display at City Hall. .

The Groveland Historical Museum recently established permanent displays at CenterState Bank, located at 1105 W. Broad St., and at Groveland's City Hall.  The idea was first suggested by Kemp Smith, historical society volunteer and husband of the late Marilyn Gammon Smith for whom the museum was dedicated.

The idea behind the displays was to find new ways to share some of the museum's photos and memorabilia with the community.

Thanks to  Marie Padgett, Mary Helen Myers and Dan Michele for their team effort in securing the display cases, putting them in place and creating the displays.
Jukebox and Groveland book featured in Lake & Sumter Style

Lake & Sumter Style magazine's October issue ran a terrific feature story on the Teenway jukebox that is on permanent loan at the museum and also ran a rave review on Images of America: GROVELAND, the pictorial history of Groveland. See below if you want to put in your Christmas order.

SPECIAL MAGNOLIA TREE
tree
Standing tall and proud amidst the construction at Gray Middle School, formerly Groveland High, is a magnificent magnolia tree. The tree is being preserved because it is irreplaceable. It was planted as a memorial for Frank B. Farr Jr., the only son of principal Frank B. Farr Sr. and his wife and junior high teacher Elizabeth Farr. Frank Jr. died in April 1965 while running the mile at a Groveland track meet. His classmates (Class of '67) planted the tree to honor their friend.
