                 NEW Edge Collection

 edge union
Sen.L.Day Edge of Groveland (4th from left) looks on as Florida Gov. Cary Hardee signs a bill creating Union County on May 21, 1921.

Lacy "Day" Edge had a front-row seat to Florida history. As the son of pioneer E.E. Edge and the youngest speaker of the Florida House of Representative, he witnessed Groveland and the state's phenomenal growth from frontier country to one of the country's fastest growing states.
Edge had an avid interest in history. He was Groveland's first mayor, started the Lake County Historical Society and had an extensive personal collection. Now thanks to the generosity of his grandson, Rex Day Winn, copies of many of the rare photos and memorabilia, such as original land grants, are now a part of the Groveland Historical Museum exhibits.
Some of the items include:
  • Dedication of the bridge between Groveland and Clermont.
  • Edge's signing of the legislation forming Union County, Florida.
  • Land grants showing early settler Daniel Sloan and Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Grover Cleveland.

The museum is free and open to the public on Saturdays from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

REMEMBERING GHS
ghs
As you probably know, the 1937 GHS building was demolished in recent weeks. We videotaped the campus beforehand and are putting together a DVD of the video with comments and stories by Bill Cockcroft and Betty Gray.

The museum has had some requests for
memorabilia to keep the memory of the 1937 GHS building alive.
In order to know if there are sufficient numbers, we have set up a poll. Voicing your opinion does not obligate you to purchase any items.

Please >>CLICK HERE to share your opinion in this brief poll.
