Brewery Vivant Farm Hand ~ French Style Farmhouse Ale Back in the day, Farmhouse ales were safer than water and were brewed to keep the workers, or "farm hands", refreshed and hydrated. The upside is they are darn tasty. Often referred to as a Saison, the ale tends to be slightly sour, very crisp and uniquely refreshing. A great beer in a can with poultry and game. Also great at their local brewery with the Truffle Pomme Frites.
Jolly Pumpkin E.S. Bam ~ IPA(ish) Farmhouse Ale A super hopped up Farmhouse ale from one of our favorite brewing companies around. The hops are prevalent, and so are the sour and crisp tones of a Saison. Not a new beer to the market, but it's only released in a limited amount every spring. Hop heads: Don't hesitate on this beer! You'll hear all about it from everyone else if you do.
North Coast Brewing Old Stock 2011 (new vintage) Vintage is important to this beer and every year happens to be a little different. Old Stock is meant to be aged and is brewed with strong malt and preserving hops. The flavors in this yera's batch are malty, toasted toffee, caramel and a bitter brightness. Give it 5-10 years and you'll have an ale more balanced than Lady Justice's left hand.
Left Hand Brewing Co. TNT Doppelbock Brewed with Lapsang Souchong tea, this is a pure malt beer with absolutely no rice or corn. You get malty flavors and strong alcohol like you would expect out of a Doppelbock, but the addition of tea makes the beer deliciously bitter as well. You'd be hard pressed to find a beer unique as this.
Shorts Anniversary Ale - Bellaire, MI It's back (but not for long!) A wheat wine brewed with blood orange and peppercorns. Amazingly hoppy and balanced with rich, complex flavors. It is what it says it is.
