Warm Weather Wines

MAN Vintners Chenin Blanc ~ South Africa

This wine was aptly named after the 3 winemakers' wives (Marie, Anette and Nicky) so the wives would forgive the men for being so busy making wine on weekends.  I hope after they tasted this Chenin Blanc there was no need for forgiveness!  Deliciously fresh with prickling acidity, tropical fruits and wild aromatics.

This wine is an ideal aperitif and also great for grilled seafoods and veggies,or just a nice sipper with a fresh salad.

$8.90

Terre & Mer Terret ~ France

A surprisingly full bodied wine with crisp and defined acidity.Complex fruits show on the nose highlighting pineapple, green apple and also mineral.  The palate opens to an immediately refreshing waterfall of crisp green apple, hints of soft pear and loads of gravelly filtered acidity.  Certainly a wine I would pair with

grilled whitefish and sides of fresh veggies, steamed mollusks and loads of clarified butter for dunking.

$10.00

Domaine de Millet ~ Cotes de Gascogne

While trying to decide on a wine to have with dinner the other night, I stumbled across this on the shelf and said, "Eh...why not?"I really enjoyed the fruit forward juicyness of this wine, but I really enjoyed the complete 180 when it finished with minerality and finesse.  And yes, it paired great with my orange poached salmon with carmelized shallots and mushrooms over spiced quinoa.

$8.90

Benaza Godello ~ Monterrei, Spain

This wine is so fresh and wonderful, with a nice medium body that will have Chardonnay drinkers thinking twice about sticking by their beloved buttery goodness.  Most Godello is pretty pricey, so when the rep told us the price on this wine I almost forcefully spit it out of my mouth in shock...it's that good!  Nice dry fruit tones with hints of passion fruit, banana, pineapple and lemon.  Anything from chicken, simple seafood, light summer pastas or even fresh veggies and fruits will sit nicely with this wine.

It's across the board approachable.

$12.50

Acrobat Pinot Gris, Oregon

A crazy combination of melon, green apple, pineapple and spice on the nose with the palate crossing over to pear with kiwi and tangerine (faint, but there...really) with a lemon-like citrus acidity. It's a crazy little wine, but very pleasing to the palate, new & fun to try. A perfect crowd pleasing wine for parties.  Pairable with food, and certainly good to go on it's own.

$13.50

Joseph Mellot "Destinea" Sauvingon Blanc ~ France

You may think you want a Sauv Blanc from New Zealand, but you don't.  What you really want is a super food friendly Sauvingnon Blanc from the Loire Valley of France.  Just as crisp, and way cooler.  It highlights the grapefruit and lemon with a nice chalky minerality.  Great with herbed cornish hens, over a bed of mushroom risotto.

$11.50
