This week at Art of the Table...



It's June tomorrow, and we're starting a new 'green' initiative!
You're always wondering what to do with
those wine bottle corks, right?

We have a great solution! We just began working with
Re-Cork, a company that takes those corks you were just tossing (or saving for...what was that reason again?...) and recycles them into things like shoes and bags and flooring.
Natural corks are entirely recyclable (sorry, we can't take the synthetic corks),
so do your part when you come in for our next wine tasting or to buy your next bottle! Bring us your corks, we'll do the rest of the work!

for wine tasting! 

  Every Thursday in June we'll be uncorking those sample bottles to let you taste wines (Fridays are for beer...) Our June theme is a bubbly, white & red theme.  Each Thursday one of each will be opened from a specific country.

Come in each Thursday and learn by taste!

  • It's June tomorrow, and that means  

  • it's time for Rosé!


    Sometime mid-winter we start preordering Rosé for the summer months.  And those wonderful pink wines are rolling in with wreckless abandon!

    If you are skeptical of

    Rosé, thinking it's too much like white zinfandel, let's chat.  It's a new day in pink wine.  A beautiful Cotes de Provence is certainly a far cry from massed produced white zin.  Rosés can be so beautifully dry and balanced with tart, refreshing ripe fruits that scream summer.  Ripe strawberry, watermelon, dried herbs and sometimes banana pose when they are super young and are classic traits of quality produced Rosé.

    Rosé is also one of my all time favorite wines for grilling.  Fresh caught Rainbow Trout with wild mushrooms and fresh herbs thrown on the grill is only enhanced with a bottle of the pink stuff.  We'll give you a few examples below...

    Chateau Valcombe Epicure ~ Ventoux, France

    A pale, almost orange hued rosé with delicious flavors of classic watermelon, faint strawberry, mouthwatering herbaciousness and traces of citrus-like zest.  Early on, there is a hint of banana on the nose and it burns off quickly.  Easily pairs with seared red snapper simmered in ginger garlic lime broth and red pepper flakes.

    Domaine La Manarine ~ Cotes du Rhone, France 

    Dried strawberry goodness on the nose and palate.  The color is vibrantly pink bordering on a light red. The texture is a little creamy and the fruit really settles nicely in the mouth.  A summertime favorite sitting out on the porch with fresh fruits from

    the farmer's market.

    Rosa di Montacuto ~ Marche, Italy 

    Such a stunning color. Unlike any other Rose I've seen.  In truth, the color is deep translucent red.  You really have to struggle to find the pink in this wine.  But in the mouth, the flavors all come together with that wonderful zippy and fresh mouthfeel.  More terroir driven than most of our other rosés, there is even a little earth hiding under the watermelon, strawberry, black cherry and floral tones.  Delicious with sliced roma tomatoes and sea salt on bread with a little Robiola smeared in.
