Wine Talk by Art of the Table
March 24, 2011
We've been waiting a very long time to be able to do in store wine & beer tastings and we couldn't be more excited that it's
finally allowed!

So Friday marks our first ever in-store tasting for you, our customers.  We will be sampling our three most popular wines in our store's history, just going for nostalgia.

Just so you know, we can't open just anything on the shelf,
we have to report to the state what and when we are tasting in advance, so we can only do it on days that we submit to taste and are approved for.

That being said, we will always send out an email letting you know when and what we are tasting in the store.  Check out our calendar for upcoming tastings - generally one per week!

Here's a short description of the wines we are tasting
Friday, March 25 from 4-7pm...don't all show up at once!
Taste 'em Friday!

Coto de Hayas Crianza ~ Spain

A blend of Grenache from 30+ year old vines and Tempranillo from 20+ year old vines.  The wine is deep purple in color and very rich.

I think what we love most about this wine is its unique fruit forward flavor that ends with serious backbone.  The balance of fruit, earth and spice come together nicely in a very respectably priced wine.

$9

Marietta Old Vine Red Lot #54 ~ Californiamarietta

This is a young and delicious non-vintage wine that delivers layers of loaded fruit on the palate and beautiful layers of raspberry, blackberry, spice, nuts, earth and a hint of oak on the nose.  "We want people to be excited for what is in the bottle, to know what to expect in the bottle, and to deliver on that thoroughly. Lot 54 does that with loads of fruit layers at the core of the wine," says wine making family Chris, Jake, Scot and Sam Bilbro. We, too are excited about this wine and we have been since we opened our doors some 7+ years ago.  Give it a try if you haven't, you'll see what we mean.

$13.75

Novellum Chardonnay ~ France

Produced in the Roussillon region of Southern France, this blended Chardonnay, or cuvee if you will, is made specifically for importer Eric Solomon.  It is a wonderful unoaked Chardonnay with lovely fruit flavors and attractive acidity without being overbearing like some unoaked wines can get.  This wine shows the terroir of the Roussillon as well as fantastic wine making

ability at an affordable price.  We recommend it with roasted poultry and certainly with oily fish dishes.

$11.75

Whites from strange and awesome to
elegant and decadent

We're not tasting these this week but we're truly excited about them as they're new and delightful!

Oremus Tokaji Dry ~ Hungary

This is nothing like the sweet dessert wine you might be thinking of. This is a very dry wine with lovely acidity and delicious golden fruit tones. The most beautiful thing I found in this wine was the faint hint of almond on the nose and also right up front in the mouth.  It is distinct, yet subtle and truthfully wonderful.  Then, delicious golden apple takes over alongside pear and subltle prickling acidity.

$24.75

C.H. Berres Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese ~ Mosel

This is a special wine.  Not only because Amy climbed the steep cliff which bears the name 'Urziger Wurzgarten', but because it's a beautiful semi-dry Riesling from 1997 (yes, we're not kidding!) that is showing absolutely stellar right now.  Loads of acidity and lemony zest back up the distinct petroleum nose.  The palate continues on with that same wonderful acidity and traces of peach, honey, lemon and sun warmed earth.  Wines like this are incredibly rare and should be taken advantage of immediately.  Don't hesitate,

especially at this price!
