Wine Talk by Art of the Table
March 15, 2011
It's not every day we get to tell you about new wines.

We focus very hard on selling wines you aren't going to see anywhere else around town.

Today is a good day as we've got a few things that
have trickled in over the past month that we haven't taken
the opportunity to tell you about.

Here are a few wines to get really excited about,
we think you'll dig 'em.

Remember there's still time to sign up for this Friday's wine tasting. Details? Ask Kenya Matters
Reds from soft and fruity to big and bold

Cuvee des 3 Messes Basses ~ Cotes du Ventoux

A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 20% Syrah.  It is soft and fruit forward with nice earthy tones taking a backseat to the rest of what's going on.  The acidity is soft and it is meant to be consumed now or up to 5 years from vintage date.  Yes, it's a young wine and it's good.  It was consumed with roast beef, mashed potatoes and funky broccoli (yup).

This is a food friendly wine, not much won't pair.

$9

Domaine Delubac Cotes du Rhone ~ France

A delicious Southern Rhone wine with classic terroir characteristics and well integrated red fruits.  The spice and funk are minimal, but still present.  The fruit shines through wonderfully with black cherry and raspberry hitting the palate, balanced out by rich earth and subtle minerality.  Enjoyable on its own if you are fan of Rhone wines, and a great choice for ground lamb burgers & pomme frites.

$17.50

Folesano Guidesco ~ Colli Bolognesi, Italy

Just last week we told you all about our favorite wines from the Folesano family.  Each of the wines in the store run in under $15. This is their big brother.

100% Merlot

with some time on oak, this wine screams quality. Roughly 400 cases are produced annually, and the small dedicated production shows brilliantly in this wine.  The structure is bold and the body is big, but elegance is a word I would also use to describe this wine. The Folesano family is dedicated to sustainable farming and giving back to the land, we can certainly stand behind that.

$31

Whites from strange and awesome to elegant and decadent

Oremus Tokaji Dry ~ Hungary

Nothing like the sweet dessert wine you might be thinking of.  This is a very dry wine with lovely acidity and delicious golden fruit tones. The most beautiful thing I found in this wine was the faint hint of almond on the nose and also right up front in the mouth.  It is distinct, yet subtle and truthfully wonderful.  Then, delicious golden apple takes over alongside pear and subltle prickling acidity.

$24.75

C.H. Berres Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese ~ Mosel

This is a special wine.  Not only because Amy climbed the steep cliff which bears the name 'Urziger Wurzgarten', but because it's a beautiful semi-dry Riesling from 1997 that is showing absolutely wonderful right now.  Loads of acidity and lemony zest back up the distinct petroleum nose.  The palate continues on with that same wonderful acidity and traces of peach, honey, lemon and sun warmed earth.  Wines like this are incredibly rare and should be taken advantage of immediately.  Don't hesitate,

especially at this price!
