Beer Talk by Art of the Table
January 13, 2011

We try to keep it fresh and interesting, so here are a few new things in the cooler that we think are awesome.

...and we've got a feeling you will think so too...

New to da Coola'
Founders Double Trouble IPA

A double IPA released seasonally, and a favorite around the area.  Intense citrus and hop aromas are backed up by generous hops and balanced malt.  The finish is shockingly smooth and bitter.  Be careful with this one, it's easy to drink a few and go, "oops."

Bell's Hopslam

Must be the time of year for intensely hoppy ales.  Bell's claims this is their most intense hopping schedule of any of their beers.  Six different strains of hops added to a generous amount of malt, dry hopped extensively and a touch of honey added just because it's awesome.  Come and get it...it's back!

Founders Reds Rye, A Pale Ale

We haven't carried this in a while, so I wanted to mention that it's back on the shelves.  A generously hopped rye ale with a very nice earthy character and slight citrus tones.  Very tasty.

Lagunitas Maximus
Welcome back you teeth enamel removing piece of art.  An intense beer with all of the right flavors.  Over the top, but balanced.  Citrus and pine, with just enough caramel malt.  This is a hop head beer.

Sierra Nevada Glissade

A golden bock is traditionally meant to bring spring...we won't be seeing spring for a while, but you can sip on this now if you like.  Delicate and restrained sweet tones from the malt are hidden under subtle spice from the European hops.  This beer is light, refreshing, subtle and very good.  Balance and quality define this beer, and as a generalization, Sierra Nevada as well.

Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti Stout

It's here!  A roller-coaster of flavor for your mouth.  Big espresso tones with chocolate, cedar, pepper, vanilla and earth persist on the mouth and linger for a very long time.  All you Bourbon County and Dragon's Milk fans be warned, you might have a new favorite.

Dark Horse Raspberry Ale

I love the Dark Horse mentality to making beer.  I won't go into detail, but essentially, they just make good beer.  This is a beer first, fruit second kind of beer.  Light and sessionable, this is a great sit a sip beer with a nice raspberry finish.  Visit their website for more details here.

On the heels of new things are things we've been reminded are great.  My ever lovin' beer drinkin' husband loved (again) the Belgoo - a Belgian of immensely great flavor and super price too!

What else has recently arrived in our cooler?

  • Shorts Good Samaritan & the Wizard
  • Anderson Valley Winter Solstice
  • Lagunitas Brown Shugga
  • Dragoons Dry Irish Stout
