Lovin' Mustard!

local mustard

This Saturday, August 7 is
National Mustard Day!

Celebrate it with us by honoring your mustard
and other condiments.

For the next three days we will be showing off our mustards and think you should taste them. From local mustard to concoctions like Honey Tarragon Mustard we want you to know just what is in that jar you spy each week.

And don't forget the ketchup & pickles, we've got those too...
Lovin' Mozzarella!
Today we received another fresh shipment of mozzarella di bufala from our fine friends in Italy.  I just finished having a little for lunch alongside my backyard tomato, it's so fresh and firm. Yum!

And for the first time in our store's history there's Burrata here!

Burrata, "buttery" in Italian, is a hollow ball of mozzarella di bufala filled with panna, a cream that contains scraps of mozzarella left over from mozzarella-making. Cut into the ball and the cream oozes out. The cheese bits make the panna both buttery and creamy, although not overly rich, since this is still a fresh cheese.

We love to simply eat burrata alongside fresh things but check out these links, one from my favorite food blog, Serious Eats and another that caused Kate to say "holy smokes!" is easy and lands right here with Bruschetta with Burrata, Honey & Citrus Oil (only a friendly reminder, please get your bread from a local bakery!)

Get it while it's fresh!
Lovin' Markets!
reisenthel large zipI took my first opportunity of the year to pick up my own CSA last week and my first trip to the Fulton Farmer's Market all in one week!  I know, it's kind of pathetic but also the life of a busy business owner!  My amazing husband and friends pick up the slack for me (don't tell, but I even had a cute little 6 year old friend pick blueberries for me as I was out of time!)

reisenthel market basketSo as out of practice as I am, every time I do go to the store, the market and these wonderful places, I forget to bring my own bags.  I realize they're in the car or by the backdoor at the house.  I have made a renewed effort to have these with me.  Now...how to remember...

At the market last week I saw the stunning colors of bags and baskets being used in addition to the colorful bounty (and it's high season for bounty!) on the tables.  It's always so fun to watch the packaging move up and down the aisles.

I love that people are paying attention to the washable fabric bags!

So in case you want to attend the market in style and haven't found your style yet, we've got patterns and sizes galore!  And I think the best prices in all of West Michigan.
