Michigan beer is really good. You most likely know that, because you care enough about beer to be on our beer mailing list and you probably live or have lived in Michigan. We constantly hear stories about people moving away and craving their favorite beer they can't find anywhere anymore. One example is Short's Brewing Co. It's only available here in our great state, and the rumor is it most likely will always be that way (more on that next week, you should see what wacky stuff they're bringing out!). It's a local thing, and that isn't such a bad thing at all.

Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam Jolly Pumpkin has had a pretty impressive year. Highly acclaimed by the New York Times and opening new locations in Traverse City and Ann Arbor, they don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Plus, they are starting to produce their own spirits...cool! Anyway, this is tasty stuff. Flavors of lemon and clove, with hints of sour banana throw your palate into a contemplative frenzy. But, then you are reminded that this beer is awesome and after the first sip or two, you are wondering where the rest of the beer went (it's that easy to drink).
Arcadia Sky High Rye A truly flavorful and balanced rye ale with no bitter toasted notes. Completely loaded with citrusy hop flavors and incredibly focused carbonation, this beer really goes the distance. Grapefruit is immediately evident, but calmed down by an aftertone of bubble gum. All we can say is, we are so happy this is being bottled regularly now.
Short's Soft Parade Another rye beer, strange huh? This time, the bitterness of the rye is there, but it is so honestly balanced with the blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and blackberry. It's a fruit beer for sure, but the rye really allows the sweetness to be muted. Perfect with stinky and bleu cheeses, and really nice out on the patio with good friends.

So the above mentioned beers are out there and great...but these producers all make great IPAs, pale ales, stouts, porters, lagers, wheats and the things in between.
Arcadia Brewing Co. Bell's Brewing Co. Short's Brewing Co. New Holland Brewing Founders The Livery Atwater Brewing Co. Detroit Brewing Co. Jolly Pumpkin North Peak Dark Horse Michigan Brewing Co. Leelanau Brewing Co.
There are many more great brewing companies in this state, but here is a short list of the ones to really keep an eye out for.
Cheers!
