Bonci Verdicchio Classico
|
| This super versatile white wine has the body and weight to stand up to some crazy amazing seafood, while being refreshing enough to cool you off on a hot, humid day.
Let's give it some history, shall we?...
Verdicchio comes from the Marche region of Italy, this one specifically from Castelli di Jesi. Marche is along the eastern shore, somewhat north of central Italy, but not quite northeast either. The seafood from the region is flavorful and bountiful. Meaning, this wine is a dead winner almost anywhere you go. Bonci displays classic characteristics of fantastic Verdicchio. Medium bodied with citrusy and slightly nutty aromas and a palate full of lemon, lime zest and a faint whisper of sea salt air. We haven't really met a person yet that doesn't like it... ...and we aren't sure we ever will.

Terre de Causan ~ Rose
|
| Rose, rose, rose...It seems like that is all you ever hear about in the summer, and the months leading up to it. We talk about it, "they" talk about it and everyone loves it. Today is no different, sorry. Rose is so brilliantly refreshing and good rose is unbelievably pairable with food. Terre de Causan is no exception, though the price is certainly exceptional.
Terre de Causan comes from the Bernard LaTour family and their Domaine de l'Espigouette in the Southern Rhone. Bright and acidic, showing subtle watermelon and strawberry, flowing with lemon drop goodness and and earthy backbone.
Coming up with food options is straight up easy with this wine. Grilled salmon with fried plantains, pork shoulder risotto, corn on the cob with sea salt and butter (especially our Vermont Creamery butter and sea salt), grilled chicken with lemon and herbs with cilantro basmati rice...we really could drag this on for way too long...oh yeah, we can't forget paella, that one is a must.
As versatile and delicious as this wine is, it's only a whopping $9! Making it a perfect sipper for most any occasion. |
Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco
|
| Brand new to our shelves this week, and boy oh boy - are we ever excited!!! (yes it was voiced as a statement, but worded as a rhetorical question, I'm still not putting in a question mark)
We've all heard about the glory of Barolo and it's inky, big, yet refined and subtle, complex qualities. We also have seen the price tag and think, ah...maybe for Christmas. We want to say ~ don't wait! Enjoy now! Just drink Nebbiolo. Barolo is crafted from this fine grape, and we've found one that is to die for at a great price. Now don't get us wrong, this is no substitute, but it is down right enjoyable.
Vietti does some great things. We have been proud to carry other wines from them in the past and we are still proud to have a few of their selections on the shelf right now.
Vietti's Nebbiolo is far less inky and robust than most Barolo, and more subtle in nature. Also a touch more acidic than you would find a Barolo, however it's super earthy with touches of cherry and minty aromas. The palate comes off with really nice freshness and balance between the earth and the fruit. With a slight chill, not cold, with a little time in the ice box this wine will open up to new worlds. It's not really like a Pinot Noir, but you wouldn't be so wrong if you thought so. Man, wine is fun...isn't it?
