Tastings, Travis & Terre de Causan
Next week we're hosting two wine tastings. One will beckon summer and the other features an Italian winemaker, three courses of food & plentiful chocolate.
Then, two wines. One is pink. And dry.

Rubini Wine Tasting Dinner + Plentiful Chocolate
Owned by the Rubini family since 1814, this estate was once a mulberry growing, silkworm
breeding, then tobacco growing farm. And their farm has a further
storied past (If you want to read up on the family history, here you are!
Needless to say, this farm has been flourishing for over 190 years.
If you want to...
- taste the wines with Dmitri Pintar, directly from the winery
- eat a three course meal that Chef Chad Miller has paired,
- finish
the evening with Dmitri's favorite Pignolo (a rich native Italian red
varietal produced Amarone-style) and dark chocolate from Art of the
Table
...then you should come.
It's quite seriously only $40 a person and that's a steal! Thursday, May 13 @ Corez (919 Cherry SE) at 6:30pm
We must have RSVPs for both tastings by Monday morning next week. Please call or email me - the sooner the better, seats may fill quickly.

Travis |
| A Chardonnay from California... What do ya know? No, you don't know. There are many Chardonnays from California, but not many of them that have kept coming back to our shelves over...and over... For the past
20 years, the Travis family has put emphasis on full ripeness, brilliant fruit, and
lively, refreshing natural acidity as opposed to buttery oak. The cooling winds of the Monterey Bay area make this wine remind us of a crisp Chablis from France, not the oak bombs you've grown to expect from CA. This unoaked, unfiltered Chardonnay
is surprisingly complex and delivers notes of lemon rind, orange marmalade, white
peaches, and pears. |
Terre de Causan - it's pink.
| |
It's time for the arrival of the pink wines. Before you dis the pink, try it. I love pink wines with chicken, salmon, cheese ...and a hot summer evening. Terre de Causan is one of the first roses we have brought in this year - but don't think it's the only one. By week's end, we'll have about 10. This wine is faintly strawberry pink almost salmon; it has a striking stone-like minerality and gives a good stringent acidity and reminds me of strawberry-rhubarb pie. Tonight I had this with a delightful baked chicken dish that was topped with roasted tomatoes and black olives. It was a delight. Oh, and it's $9 a bottle. |
