Table Talk & Wine Talk by Art of the Table
April 23, 2010
For those of you on our Table Talk list, we're including you in this special combined edition of our Wine Talk newsletter - just in case you don't receive it!  Because you just might want to know about next week's tastings!

Next week there are TWO opportunities to taste with us. First up? Amazing Napa wines alongside a winemaker who really knows the ropes & slopes of winemaking.
Second, a virtual trip to Chile via the wines of Terra Andina. Only $15!

One can always find more information on our wine (and other) tastings on
our web calendar as well! Hope you'll join us for these special spring delights!
Meet the Winemaker: Barnett Vineyards

Join us as we taste some very very amazing wines from Napa Valley's
Spring Mountain with Barnett winemaker David Tate
David understands difficult growing regions in and around Napa,
having previously been at Ridge winery and other respected wineries of the world.

He will share his wealth of knowledge with us while we sip on barnett vineyardswell-pedigreed wines that range from $32 to $132 and are always receiving accolades from those
who enjoy the big extreme California wines!

You can expect to taste Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate's single vineyard sites.

Check out what they're doing here
and then join us at Corez on April 28 at 6:30pm
for a great experience of food & wine & a small group face to face with a winemaker.

Due to the caliber of these wines, we should be charging more to attend but we wanted to keep this reasonable - remember it includes some food as well.

$45 (+ tax and tip)

Terra Andina Wines

ta2
At only $15, this tasting will be a "walkaround", meaning you can come

anytime between 5pm & 7pm, try the wines, chat with the wine people and nosh on food delights.  There will be no formal presentation, just an opportunity to talk with the wine people.

Literally translated to "Land of the Andes", Terra Andina's award-winning wines
express the diversity of Chile's terroir, with vineyards spanning the length of this narrow but proud nation, including the prized Maipo, Rapel, Casablanca and Colchagua Valleys,
as well as cutting edge regions like
Limari & Leyda Valleys.

Combining New World fruit-forward
voluptuousness with Old World balance and finesse, these wines never fail to please me no matter the 'level' of wine.

On the 29th, we'll be doing a side-by-side tasting of their
introductory level wines
Riservas
Reserve Altos
& top tier really lovely Suyai as well!

At my count, that's a total of 14 different wines to try - all for $15!

The event is at Restaurant Bloom and we DO need you to sign up
ahead of time with your contact info. call the store soon to reserve!
Chilean Wines Delight!
 Vina Falernia PXvina falernia px

PX? What is that?  Pedro Ximenez.  It's a grape often grown in Spain and Chile too!  This winery is in the northernmost wine growing region of Chile, known as the Elqui Valley.  It's temperature swings which include very cool nights and hot days give this wine the vibrancy it possesses.  Small batch made with handpicked grapes, this has been fermented in all stainless steel and kept on its skins for extra depth of flavor.  Despite this it's medium bodied and tart and fruity really yummy for the summer.

Vina Falernia Carmenere/Syrah

vina falerina csComprised of a 60/40% blend of Carmenere and Syrah respectively, from only three different vineyards that Vina Falernia owns, this elegant and gorgeous and not very expensive wine also hails from the Elqui Valley. At 14.5% alcohol, this is a big, bold deep purple wine and reminds me of a Cabernet with its great big berry and slight green pepper notes. It's stunningly full and has doses of black pepper
and dark chocolate brimming about.
(If any of you tried our Morande closeouts last fall that were awesome values...you'll love this wine too!)

$14.25/$13.54/$12.83/$12.11
If you're looking for chocolate AND something to do this weekend...stop by the store.  It's Taza Chocolate weekend!  We've got delightful samples all around!
