Table Talk by Art of the Table
March 31, 2010
It's Easter week and we're keeping busy!

We are more than happy to help you put together the ultimate Easter basket, dress up your table and select perfect wines to pair with your ham or lamb or...veggies!

We're open til 8 every night, we would love to see you.
It's Deviled Egg Week!

deviled eggs
The first two days of deviled egg week have gone splendidly.

We're creating actual eggs for you to sample from our favorite book (above) of 50 deviled egg recipe, a book that also includes generous tips & hints on how to boil an egg perfectly every time.

We are serious that deviled eggs can be really good and unusual.  They're not your grandma's little devils!  In fact, today's eggs are  Cajun and also Greek ones.  For the following days, we'll have Thai eggs, blue cheese eggs and avocado eggs too.

Join us all week to taste and see just how great these
little devils can be!

Buy the book, buy a plate to serve them on, grab ingredients and voila, a new expertise!

Wine for Easter & Spring

One white, one red, one bubbly.
These are my picks for Easter and spring delights:

BUBBLY: Ca'di Pietra Melrose Prosecco Rose     $17.50
Yes, it's pink!  It's Pinot Bianco, Prosecco and Pinot Nero blended to form a gorgeous mouthful of an elegant medium cherry, strawberry burst with creamy, fizzy earth thrown in.

shooting star aligoteWHITE: Shooting Star Aligoté           $14
This is the elusive Burgundian white varietal that is found almost nowhere.  Both on the wine shelves in general and also in this state.  because of our special request, we are the only people in all of Michigan with this gorgeous - did i say gorgeous!?! wine.  Racy and stylish, yet full bodied and round, this electrifies with notes of golden delicious apple, honey, star fruit. You'll taste with hints of wet soil and flint, rounded out with a dollop of pineapple.  Pair this with anything you eat this upcoming weekend & all summer.  You will be so so happy.

RED:  Three Winds Pinot Noir   $9.75
From the "South of France", we know this hails from the Languedoc area.  They're just trying to make it easy for you to know just what you're looking at.  From this Dr. Seuss looking Stelvin (screw cap) comes this easy drinking wine with character that brims as it tells you it is a Pinot Noir.  With essence of strawberry pie, with that slight earthy floor, it all wraps up to provide a Pinot Noir at a great price for family holiday drinking without bowing to the "grocery store" level of wine.

And because I just can't stop with one red...

Let me say, I'll be drinking some of this because I'm sure there will be ham.
roqueta tempranillo  Bodegas Ramon Roqueta Tempranillo at $10.75 I'm of a mind that Tempranillo matches up with anything in my kitchen.  This one especially goes because it's aged a little with oak and it's big in the big wild fruit department.  There's a hint of licorice, there's a snappy freshness to it and yet it's subdued.  And it's made by a great small family winery and that, too, goes well with family at the holiday table.

Abundant Cheese!

Cheeses, meats, butter, white anchovies, olives...and all the other fantastic finds we keep bringing in are making us so happy.  We're having fun getting creative and hope you keep trying new things with us!

roaring 40sRoaring Forties Blue is a full flavored blue with a sweet and mildly nutty character.  Rich and creamy, the texture is almost brie-like and spreadable within its waxy rind.  Try it on a salad with walnuts and spinach or with Fruit and Nut Crostini and Dried Black Mission Figs!

Pave Sauvage is a beautiful and elegant fresh goat's milk cheese from Perigord, France. It is covered in herbs (tarragon is one of the more prominent flavors that hails from it) and peppercorns for a dramatic presentation, but rather than overpowering the delicate flavor of the goat cheese, they are in perfect balance with each other.

The Old Chatham Shepherding Company's Nancy's Hudson Valley Camembert is a creamy, soft-ripened cheese made from the milk of Old Chatham's herd of 100 East Frisian sheep combined with hormone-free cow's milk from a neighbor's farm.  Meltingly smooth and buttery with the texture of a triple-crème, this award-winning cheese pairs beautifully with Champagne as well as Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.  Make a meal of it by wrapping slices in phyllo, sauté until crisp and brown, and serve with a beautiful salad and a side of chutney! Shazzaam!

In case you're stressing out about entertaining this weekend, we think it's okay to use paper napkins from time to time.  As long as you have great food & candles that match, no one will know the difference.  See you soon!
