NCA Playground Refurbished as Eagle Scout Project

You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt,
and how I carried you on eagles' wings
and brought you to myself.        - Exodus 19:4

NCA's playground underwent a transformation over the summer as freshman Andre Imperiali made it the
focus of his Eagle Scout Service Project.
When you see a sign or symbol frequently, there can be a tendency to forget its significance.

Take our school mascot - the eagle, for example. NCA's school and team uniforms, documents and website are all adorned with the image of an eagle. The eagle was carefully and intentionally chosen to represent NCA within our own school community, as well as to the outside world. While certainly there are some who recall the choice of the eagle as our school symbol, many of us weren't around for the original discussion. So perhaps a brief revisit would be beneficial. What does the eagle represent, and why was it selected as the mascot of Nashua Christian Academy?

A little research reveals that there is nothing average or ordinary about eagles.
Webster's dictionary describes an eagle as a large bird of prey with sharp vision and powerful wings, famous for their strength, size, grace, and keen vision. The eagle is chosen to symbolize these virtues for schools and universities, professional sports teams, organizations and corporations. In 1782, the bald eagle was selected as America's national emblem to associate our country, its military, and our government with the qualities of the majestic bird: honor, indomitable spirit and excellence.

We find the eagle referenced 28 times in the Bible, with descriptors such as swift, swooping, hovering, and soaring, all words that evoke the characteristics of agility, guardianship and greatness.

The Eagle and Scouts
With all of the superlatives and accolades credited to eagles, it is entirely fitting that the highest rank achievable by youth members of the Boy Scouts of America is the award of Eagle Scout. Scouting is a respected organization throughout the country promoting character development, leadership training, and good citizenship. The online source Scouting Statistics estimates that, "one out of four boys in America will become Scouts, but it is interesting to know that of the leaders of this nation in business, religion and politics, three out of four were Scouts."

Collecting Boxtops for Education Now
Box Tops

Just a reminder that NCA collects
Boxtops for Education year round. If every student at NCA could collect 50 boxtops over the  course of a year - that would amount to approx. $1,000 for NCA. If you can If you can ask neighbors and grand-parents to save  them also that would be great.

Occasionally, there are contests to win BOXTOPS - NCA received  $1,000 last year, just because a parent entered NCA into a contest.

Please send your boxtops into NCA. Elementary aged children can give them to their teacher. Junior High or High School students can give them to their principal.

Thank you.

What do you see God doing at NCA?

It is a question that He answers most every day.

There are many stories about what God is doing/has done in the lives of NCA students, faculty and staff as they develop a passion for God and compassion for people. In fact, YOU may have a story about how God has used NCA in your life. We would love to hear your stories and share them through this blog.

Perhaps a teacher encouraged you in your spiritual journey... or another NCA staff member demonstrated how to live passionately for God in an apathetic world... maybe you've seen a marked change in your child's attitude/behavior... perhaps your experience on a mission trip transformed your heart toward others... or you've observed a pupil showing compassion to another student... whatever your story, we'd like to hear it from you.

Visit the What's God Doing? page on the NCA website. Share your story of what God is doing at NCA and be an encouragement to others.

NCA's High School Robotics Team Takes 3rd!

Andre Imperiali and Joey Cameron were the Undefined Variables Robotics team from NCA competing Thursday October 21st
Did you know that there are two Robotics teams at NCA?

Even while the Flying Geeks Junior High Robotics team is working hard preparing for their yearly competition in early December, the the "Undefined Variables" NCA's High School Robotics team finished 3rd out of 9 teams in the Southern NH Business Expo Robot Challenge. They competed against 3 other schools: Milford (which had 4 robot teams), Wilton Lyndeborough (2 teams) and Souhegan (2 teams).

Judging was based on the robot, a demonstration of it's abilities, a display of the project and the ability to answer the judges' questions, as a team, to demonstrate that all members participated. I was told by one of the judges that Joey and Andre had the best score in the verbal response category demonstrating that they both knew all about the robot and the challenges they faced along the way.

Parent's Prayer Hour

"You can tell how popular a church is by who comes on Sunday morning. You can tell how popular the pastor or evangelist is by who comes on Sunday night. But you can tell how popular Jesus is by who comes to the prayer meeting."
(from Fresh Wind,
Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala, Pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle)

In the Bible, God speaks to us, and in prayer, we complete the vital circle of communication with Him. One hour a week, a number of NCA parents gather to hear from God through His Word, and to offer praise and petition for the joys and concerns of our school community.

The NCA Parents' Prayer Hour group feels it is important to pray IN the school FOR the school, and we invite all parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles to join us whenever and as often as you are able. We meet every Thursday morning from 8:00 - 9:00 in the Elementary school cafeteria.

Let us know how we can pray intentionally and specifically for NCA's students, staff and families by leaving written prayer requests in the box in the Main Office lobby, or by emailing them to Nancy Davis. Please be sure to send us your praise reports too and keep us updated on prayer requests you have submitted. If you have any questions about the NCA Parents' Prayer Hour, please contact Nancy Davis.

As Paul wrote in Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Christian College Fair Recap
NCA was the official host of the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals (NACCAP) College Fair on Monday, September 27th. Over 145 students and parents attended the event with approximately one-third of them coming from outside the NCA community. Twenty-two college admissions representatives came from across the U.S. to share information with students. Prospective college students and their parents had the opportunity to meet the college reps, ask questions, exchange contact information, and collect brochures and other printed material. While not all students may be interested in attending a Christian college, Many fair attendees were impressed by the wide variety of majors offered by these liberal arts institutions. One NCA student commented:

"It was a good chance to ask some questions and see what colleges have to offer. This way I can narrow down which colleges I'm interested in visiting in the next part of my search."

NACCAP was very impressed with the success of the Fair considering it was the first time NCA had officially hosted such an event. We hope to build on that success next year with even more community promotion. Mrs. Myers of the High School office coordinated the College Fair supported by NCA parent Judi Adamyk. Mrs. Myers expressed gratitude to Grace Fellowship Church for their generous hospitality, and to all of the NCA parents who pitched in to help before, during, and after the event. "We hope," she added, "to build on that success with even more community promotion and participation next year."
NCA High School Mission Trips Announced

NCA High School students will be given the opportunity to serve in Jamaica or Bolivia during the Winter Break (February 25 - March 4) in 2011. Two teams will be selected from applications submitted to the High School office. Those selected to go to the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf will also be required to take an American Sign Language course in advance of the trip. The team going to Cochabamba, Bolivia will serve with the International Orphanage Union that NCA worked with last year. This is a long-term project with the ultimate goal of providing a home for 10 orphans and supporting it on an on-going basis.

All students must complete one mission trip with NCA in order to graduate. Overseas trips such as these cost $1500-$1800 and the students must raise or cover their own costs. If you would like to support a student, please contact Janine Myers. Checks can be made payable to Nashua Christian Academy and all donations are tax deductible.

Any funds raised over and above our expenses (we are very frugal!) will be donated to the ministry to help the poor and orphaned. Typically the students also bring appropriate items (playground toys, clothing, school supplies, etc.) to donate to the mission where they are serving.

Mission trips are also being planned for the April vacation week; one local mission and another possibly overseas.

Please uphold these trips, students, staff, and parent chaperones in prayer as plans are made and support is raised. Our desire is to provide an excellent mission service experience where God is glorified and lives are changed. Click here for more information about the missions outreach program at NCA.
