Participating teams included champions Trader Joe's, as well as teams from Avon, California Credit Union, CATZ Fitness, Guidance Software, Parsons Corp., Pasadena Fire Dept., Pasadena Police Dept., Pasadena Southwest Little League, and PUSD teachers.

NORMA COOMBS 5th-GRADERS PLANT CAMPUS NATIVE GARDEN

admission matters computersThanks to a garden grant secured by PEF from the California Dept. of Education, Norma Coombs elementary school planted a new garden of California native grasses, flowers, and shrubs on its campus. Mrs. Bell's 5th-grade class grabbed shovels and moved dirt to install the first batch of drought-resistant plants. The enthusiastic gardeners were aided by several members of the Pasadena Garden Club, which also contributed funds to the effort. The collaboration was enjoyed by all.

The garden will serve as a passive learning space that will attract birds and butterflies and will teach students about the native plants and natural landscape of Southern California, as well, it will require little maintenance.

PEF secured grants for 18 PUSD schools that ranged from $2,500 to $5,000 each.
