Putting Teacher's Grant to Use |
Norma Coombs teacher Martha Tovar used her 2008 PEF Teacher's Grant, in part, to buy graphic novel libraries for her 5th-grade classroom. "Graphic novels take big concepts, such as the Boston Tea Party and the U.S. Constitution, and make them more accessible," she says. "Some of my students need that help." Tovar took a UCLA course on graphic novels and knew they would work in her class. Thanks to her PEF Teacher's Grant, she was able to buy the novels, as well as install a listening center with audio books. |
