| Inspiring Gift Lifts Library |
Dr. Richard Hudson's Latin teacher, Electa Johnson, must have made a big impression on him when he was a student at Wilson Middle School. To honor the memory of this inspiring teacher, Dr. Hudson, a Professor Emeritus of Musicology at UCLA, returned to his alma mater this spring to generously endow the Wilson IB School Library in her name. This gift of $100,000 will help enrich the library with new books and materials each year. |

| Principal for a Day |
On March 27, 2007, twenty-five business and community leaders got to experience what life is like as a principal in a PUSD school today. Principal for a Day is modeled on the national program for helping to bring businesses, communities and schools closer together.
Pictured here is 2007 PFAD and California Credit Union Branch Manager Anett Hill who shadowed Roosevelt School principal Kathee Bautista and got to know some students a little better.

| Grant Spotlight |
Two special and generous grants are allowing PEF to expand its role for providing scholarships to PUSD graduates and funds for students to go on instructional field trips. The College Access Foundation of California (previously known as the Educational Financing Foundation of California) awarded PEF a grant of $200,000 over two years to give the PUSD's graduating classes of 2007 and 2008 an opportunity to receive scholarships to attend a 4-year college. Then, the Webster Family Foundation is continuing to give towards a Field Trip Fund, which is helping teachers overcome some of the cost obstacles to taking their students on instructional field trips in this age of limited bus transportation budgets.
One area that PEF assisted the school district with this past month was the California Instructional School Gardens grant program . This effort to give individual K-12 schools "seed" money for gardens benefited from parent and community involvement, including assistance from the Huntington Gardens, resources from the California School Gardens Network, and help in getting the word out from the Pasadena Education Network. |
