{April 2012} Signed, Sealed, Delivered! |
| |

One of my favorite elements of event planning is the invitation. I enjoy finding (or designing) invitations that perfectly complement the occasion and or guest of honor. For example, I started the year planning an 80th birthday celebration for a Scottish woman. The Save the Date announcement (left) reflects her Scottish heritage and love of Scottie dogs, while the Invitation (below) features her as a young lass and again, reflects her Scottish heritage with tartan and thistle embellishments.
In the course of preparing the invitations, many questions came up - should I include a map or directions; how should I request no gifts; when should I mail it; and more. The resulting conversation became inspiration for this month's newsletter article Signed, Sealed, Delivered, which includes answers to 5 of my most frequently asked invitation questions (plus a bonus answer).
As always, thank you for reading my newsletter, sharing your feedback and referring me to family and friends. I appreciate your support and look forward to turning your next event into a posh production!

Signed, Sealed, Delivered
'Tis the season to celebrate - moms, dads, grads and more! To assist you with your party planning, I'm sharing responses to 5 of my most frequently asked invitation questions (plus a bonus resource section)!
What should I say?
Be direct and use language that complements the event - i.e. "ABC cordially invites you and a guest to their Annual Gala" or "Join us for a Backyard BBQ".
RSVP ... what? In lieu of RSVP, I recommend 'Please reply by [date]' because people understand this instruction. The reply date is usually determined by the date you need to secure food and beverage with the caterer, typically a week out from the event date. Provide a phone number and email address.
How may I request no gifts?
Wording suggestions include:
No gifts please
May your good wishes
be your only gift to us.
May the presence of your company be your only gift to us
Which way do I insert the invitation
into the envelope?
Insert the invitation with text facing the flap so that recipients will see it when they open the envelope.
When should I (e)mail the invitation?
2-3 weeks before an informal event
6-8 weeks before a formal event, as well as ticketed events and weddings.

Where do you purchase invitations?
