Happy New Year! This year, I wish you many reasons to celebrate ... like being in love!

This month's issue of party possibilities features a cocktail party to celebrate a newly engaged couple, or rather a pair of love birds.  In the article below, I explore ideas to plan an engagement party, including a free printable party planner, which is a new feature.  Even if you're not planning an engagement party, these ideas may be applied to another 'love bird' occasion like a couple's bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, anniversary party or Valentine's Day celebration.

As always, thank you for reading my newsletter, sharing comments with me and forwarding it to your friends.  I sincerely appreciate it and look forward to planning your special event soon!

So Tweet! Engagement Party

Do you know two people in love who are getting married?  Then, celebrate them with a cocktail party. Below I explore a modern 'love birds' theme to show how 'tweet' they are.  Enjoy!

Embellish your party space with love birds!  How about a bird cage on the food buffet?  Tuck some flowers inside for fun and another pop of color. Or maybe a vase of manzanita branches with a pair of love birds sitting on them?  The decor options are endless.

Food and Drinks

    bourbon coolers

Plan on serving an assortment of hors d'oeuvres - some passed, some displayed.  Approximately 10-12 pieces per person for a 1-2 hour cocktail party; increase quantity if party is held during the dinner hour.

I suggest these winter appetizers from this month's issue of Better Homes & Gardens.  Recipes with mouthwatering photos are available here.

  Crab-topped Shrimp
Greek-style Stuffed Mushrooms
Roasted Vegetable Spread
Sweet Onion-Tomato Tartlets

At the bar, I suggest beer, wine, soda and waters plus a refreshing signature cocktail like Bourbon Coolers (picture above).  The color is complementary and the citrus flavors balance the savory appetizers.
