Destination Milestone Birthday
October 2010 |
|

This issue of party possibilities showcases a destination celebration designed for my client's 40th birthday. As a gift to herself, she wanted a weekend getaway in the Berkshires at peak fall foliage to relax, recharge and reconnect with her girlfriends. Below are the highlights of my event design, as well as photos of the custom Save the Date announcement and Invitation. The design ideas may inspire any type of destination celebration - bachlorette party, family reunion, anniversary gathering ... or leaf-peeping weekend getaway of your own!

Berkshires Bound!
How does this milestone celebration sound? Hop on a plane to meet 10 close friends for a weekend of fun - sipping wine, catching up and ziplining above the trees at peak fall foliage followed by relaxing and shopping. I thought it sounded great! Here's what I designed:
The Berkshires is a lovely region of western Massachusetts. The old historic towns with quaint B&Bs against the backdrop of colorful leaves is quintessential New England in the fall.

The Save the Date (STD) announcement was mailed in February and the Invitation was mailed in August. The primary colors were copper and ivory though I incorporated a little turquoise in the STD, as well as an image of the month of October with days 1, 2 and 3 circled and highlighted. The invitation included inserts with travel arrangements and a tentative itinerary and were embellished with gorgeous copper ribbon and fall leaves. The birthday girl was very pleased.

The birthday girl wanted a private room for each guest which narrowed the list of Bed & Breakfasts. The Hampton Terrace B&B was ultimately selected for it's location, walking distance to town and friendly innkeeper, Stan, as well as the Common Room (top left photo) in the Carriage House (one of the suites bottom right photo). I envisioned late night chats in this cozy room and the birthday girl agreed.

The weekend intinerary included a casual dinner on Friday night; a leisurely breakfast on Saturday morning before a Zipline Canopy Tour, which is a 3-hour exhilerating adventure through the trees, followed by a private birthday dinner at Prime Lenox; and relaxing spa treatments at the Cranwell Resort & Spa and shopping at the Prime Outlets before departing on Sunday evening.
