This year, party possibilities will focus on unique themes for milestone birthdays and showcase ideas for bringing them to life!

My sister is the inspiration for this issue of party possibilities.  In a few days, she'll celebrate the big 5-0!.  In researching nice restaurants for a fun family dinner, I came across The Source affiliated with the Newseum in DC.  Neither venue offers a birthday promotion (which is a missed opportunity!) but the 'news' theme made me pause and think.  Sometime in the middle of the night, I had my 'aha!' moment and 'newsworthy' birthday party ideas came to me.  I've captured them below with a few photos.

Need more inspiration?  The 'newsworthy' theme, and the ideas suggested below, may be leveraged for any birthday (man or woman, young or old, regardless of age) or other special occasion (anniversary, retirement, bridal shower, baby shower) or important announcement (new home, new job) ... do you see all the party possibilities?!  That's why I'm so excited about this theme!

[Decor]
Make a notable impression with these party decoration ideas (photos above):

'Newspaper' cotton tablecloth, from DC Rental
Floral arrangement wrapped in yesterday's newspaper
Newspaper Man statue, from Cast of Thousands

Newspaper decor ideas courtesy of Kelley Gillespie of GEM Events, who produced a 'Black, White and Read All Over' corporate event last year at the Newseum that I got to help with!

Food
[Menu]
The seared scallops entree (pictured above, from marthastewart.com) complemented my 'golden yellow' colorscape but a display of the guest of honor's favorite foods would work just as well

Sunday Extras
[Entertainment]

Comics
Bring the funnies to life with an improv comedy team.  Recall funny stories, create a song - either way, funny interactive entertainment is sure to be a hit!

Crossword Puzzle
Challenge your guests knowledge of the guest of honor by creating a peronalized crossword puzzle.  Clues will reveal anectdotal stories about the guest of honor, memories that will be shared among friends and families.  Also the puzzle is a nice keepsake for the guest of honor.  Available from LoveSmartDesign.

Horoscope
Let's face it.  Some people are serious about their horoscopes.  They read them first, well before the World News.  Hire a fortune teller to entertain guests; tarot card or palm readings will inspire much lively conversation!
