Apple Pickin' Party October 2009 |

Like most people, I love the fall season and look forward to time spent outdoors.  Usually, my husband and I take our girls to a local farm for the annual fall festival but this year, I want to take a road trip to an orchard and host an Apple Pickin' Party.  We can invite a few families to join us and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after collecting baskets of apples.  The best part, in my opinion, is that this party requires little preparation or clean up yet it has all the elements for fun.  How fabulous is that?   This issue of party possibilities features an Apple Pickin' Party, a theme suitable for fall family reunions, play group gatherings, a grandparent's birthday and even a friends get-together.  Ready to host an Apple Pickin' Party?  I've outlined some key ideas below to get you started.     As always, please contact me if you need more assistance in producing your Apple Pickin' Party or any special event!  I look forward to hearing from you!  | |

| A Bushel of Fun   This fall, escape the city by heading west to have a 'bushel of fun' picking apples.  Invite a few friends, pack a lunch and enjoy nature's playground.  Below are a few ideas for hosting your own Apple Pickin' Party, as well as apple storage and recipe ideas for when you return home.
Select an Orchard Look for an orchard that offers a picnic area and additional entertainment, such as hayrides, corn mazes and music.   Pack a Picnic Basket Two options: make your lunch or buy it.  For the former option, I suggest ham and gruyere cheese with chutney on artisan bread served with a thermos of Squash and Pear soup (recipe from Wegmans).
Alternately, you can purchase a [gourmet] lunch to-go from: The orchard adventure is over; now what do you do with all those apples?  I recommend this simple yet tasty 10- Minute Apple Sauce recipe (from Alton Brown, foodtv.com).  It calls for apples, brown sugar and cognac, and cooks in a microwave.  Enjoy!  How to Store Apples Click here for the Real Simple article Need additional info, resources or assistance in planning your Apple Pickin' Party?  Contact me! | |
