Milestone Birthday Parties May 2009 |

|
Thank you for your positive feedback on sip 'n see parties in last month's issue!  I love it when I introduce new concepts and start conversations on fun party ideas.   In this issue of party possibilities, I hope to have a repeat reaction.  The focus is on milestone birthday parties.  While turning 40, 50 or 60 years old is not a new concept, I hope to inspire celebrations - simple gatherings to elaborate bashes - that reflect the guest of honor.     Over the years, I've created memorable parties based on the birthday person's interests, hobbies and or personality.  Some standouts include a 60th party for a sarcastic yet witty guest of honor; the highlight was a roast at this "Everyone Loves Edward" celebration.  Another time, I helped the client transform his living room into a chic nightclub for his wife's 40th; she and her girlfriends danced the night away!  Perhaps my most memorable milestone party was a search party for the guest of honor's youth.  Rusty was less than enthusiastic about turning 50 and needed a reminder that it was just a number.  Guests to the party met people (improv actors) from Rusty's life - a childhood friend, college buddy, former neighbor and business partner, who in turn shared funny stories about Rusty.  I can still see his martini-in-one-hand, [nerf] gun-in-the-other "business partner" who read a hilarious haiku from [former] VP Cheney and then led everyone in singing a "We Love You, Rusty" country song.  The lead detective on the case (an improv actor, too) concluded that Rusty was, and will always be, youthful!     Last month, between a fabulous 50th and a nifty 90th, I had creative license to develop a 1st birthday party theme based on the little girl's love for stuffed animals, and then, bring it to life at Frying Pan Park, a working farm, in Herndon.  It was a stunning celebration!  Below, I share my design ideas, as well as photos, with you.  Enjoy!   |

| Create an Experience:
A First Birthday Party   Based on a little girl's love of stuffed animals and her mother's wish for lots of balloons with lavish decor, I developed a playful 1st birthday party that all (100+) guests enjoyed!

The Touch: Bright Pink SatinThe Look:  Playful but Sophisticated
Teddy bear, duck, lamb and cow balloon table centerpieces, along with a 10' balloon flower arch and many balloon bouquets around the perimeter of the room reminded guests that it was a first [class] birthday party ... on a farm!

The bright pink color made a big visual impact, while the linens conveyed elegance.
The Taste:  3 Tiers of Yumminess The birthday cake took center stage, literally!
The Sound:  Children Laughing, Balloons Popping
Children squealed with delight on the moonbounce, plus they ran around outside with elaborately painted faces and not-your-usual balloon sculptures.
The Scent:   Exotic Spices The aroma from food buffet was absolutely mouthwatering! | |
