Eco-Friendly Events

Happy Spring! Happy belated Easter! Happy Passover! There's so much to celebrate this month, including Earth Day on April 22. Around the world, people do their part every day to protect our planet and conserve our precious resources. The special events industry is doing its part, too. Rental equipment is the obvious contribution but online invitations, unplugged musical entertainment and local, organic foods are significant contributions, too.
This issue of party possibilities features eco-friendly events. Specifically, I am producing an annual fundraising event for my daughters' school, Sunset Hills Montessori School; it's also the school's 15th Anniversary. To accomplish both objectives, I designed a "green" celebration, a nod to the school's colors and today's eco-friendly lifestyle.

Event Showcase
In addition to producing 'A Night for the Kids Goes Green', I'm donating a live auction item, an amazing cocktail party for 20 guests (valued at $1200), made possible by the following generous contributions from my preferred 'posh' vendors.

A Night for the Kids Goes Green
Like most schools, the Sunset Hills Montessori School PTA hosts an annual auction to raise money for children's events and to support the school's educational activities. This year, the event is going 'green' to complement the school's colors and the community's increasingly eco-friendly lifestyle. Here's how I plan to achieve a 'green' experience, and you can, too!
Our color choice is obvious. The Assembly Hall will be a sea of hunter green linens accented with colorful potted blooms (which can be planted in the school's garden after the event) in reused glass containers.
The Touch: Festive
The auction aside, guests will celebrate this milestone occasion with a slideshow, remarks from the school's founder and a BIG cake (sorry, PTA humor)!
The Taste: Local
Our flavorful menu will be made with local and or organic produce, which will also create a very colorful food display.
The Sound: Unplugged
I'm reluctant to share this detail because it's so cool! To encourage bids, 'Singing Waiters' will perform hits like 'Luck Be A Lady" and "Big Spender" while serving hors d'oeuvres. Later, a pianoist will accompany the slideshow presentation.
The Scent: Money?
