Let it Snow! Party February 2009 |
| |
| This issue of party possibilities features neat ideas to create a snow-themed party (though after last week and maybe today, snow might be a bad four-letter word to many people in the DC region).  Regardless of the occasion - Sunday supper with neighbors in your home or a Chamber of Commerce reception at the office, a snow theme is ideal this time of year.  It's very versatile, kind of a 'one-size' fits all occasions and it's relatively easy, as well as affordable, to recreate a winter wonderland experience even if there is no snow on the ground!   The inspiration for this party comes from a Coconut Snowman recipe I clipped out of Martha Stewart Living magazine a long time ago (December 2000).  Made out of ice cream, this sweet treat is absolutely adorable.  There is, also, a cream cheese version, which I modified for a friend's Super Bowl Party on Sunday night (see Event Showcase below).  Some of the party ideas will be familiar but coupled with other ideas from my favorite party planner, David Tutera, and favorite chef, Ina Garten (The Barefoot Contessa), I've crafted a wonderful winter party experience for you.  Enjoy! Of course, when your special event requires more time, effort and creativity than you have to spare, please contact me .  Cheers! |

| Let it Snow! Party If you're hosting a special celebration this month, invite your guests to a winter wonderland of fun.  Below are design ideas to bring your Snow Party to life - without stepping a foot outside!   The Look : Winter Glow Greet your guests with ice luminaries  on the walkway.  Continue the glow inside by accenting the food buffet, coffee table and fireplace mantle with assorted white candles in clear glass holders.  Alternately, decorate the food buffet (and create interesting platforms for the serving dishes) with clear glass blocks from a home improvement store (but considerably cheaper on ebay.com). The effect will look like blocks of ice.  The Touch: Warm & Cozy Create a comfortable environment with a crackling fire and a wool throw on the sofa.     The Taste: Sweet & Spicy Ina Garten suggests this Snow Day menu in her cookbook, Barefoot Contessa Parties!
(served with tortilla chips, shredded cheddar, sour cream, chopped onions) Green Salad Vinaigrette Assorted Chocolate Chunk Cookies Vanilla Ice CreamHot Mulled Cider   The Sound: Latin Beat David Tutera, recommends 'beats of tango, merengue, flamenco and salsa' in his book, The Party Planner .  He claims 'nothing heats up a room like a latin beat.'    The Scent:  Homemade Cookies in the Oven  Need I say more? | |
