Thanksgiving Tabletops November 2008 |
|
This month's issue of party possibilities focuses on Thanksgiving Tabletops. The timing couldn't be any better since my favorite tabletop idea is from Paper Source, a store that just opened at the Reston Town Center (Georgetown and Alexandria locations, too, not to mention online for everyone at www.paper-source.com). Paper Source is a very inspiring store; often, I encourage my clients to let me create unique party invitations with Paper Source supplies. In fact, I'm currently designing a 'Top Secret' invitation for a corporate holiday party at the Spy Museum using cards, labels and other embellishments from Paper Source. But I digress ...
Whether your decor preference is traditional, modern or somewhere in between, I have two tabletop ideas below to complement your style. One is great for young children, the other is simply elegant without going overboard. Additionally, I compiled some helpful Thanksgiving resources to help you make entertaining effortless - and fun this year.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving! |

Thanksgiving Tabletops
There are many ways to decorate a dinner table, especially for the holidays. Below are two ideas; both are pretty but one is fun and best for little helpers, while the other is more elegant.
Glitternut Squash and Turkey Placecards
Last year, my 5-year old daughter and I made our Thanksgiving tabletop decor - glitternut squash with turkey placecards (photo below). Though a little messy, it is my absolute favorite holiday decor and the perfect project for little ones who want to help. Project instructions may be found online at Paper-Source.com (click here for glitter squash and here for placecards).
Floral Arrangement with Ribbon Runner and Photo Placecards
This year, I plan to do something a little different. Inspired by a floral arrangement created by Exquisite Design Studio for a recent luncheon (photo below), I will bunch autumn-hue roses in three (3) glass cube vases and line them down a ribbon runner on my rectangle table. (You can use round bubble vases for a traditional look).
To make the runner, I will use 2-3 long strips of 1 1/2" satin ribbon (from Paper-Source.com).
At each place setting, my napkin rings will double as placecards. I will print and paste 2x2" photos of my family to cardstock and attach ribbon to wrap around the napkin.
More Thanksgiving Dinner Ideas
I'm an avid reader of Real Simple magazine. It's mission is "life made easier". I get that! So, last month as I was preparing this newsletter, I came across the best issue yet! It featured a Thanksgiving Cheat Sheet (click here for article). Useful information like how to determine what size turkey you need to feed x number of people (plus leftovers), how to carve a turkey, best boxed stuffing and what beverages to serve with turkey. This issue is packed with so many great ideas, I encourage you to check it out.
Additionally, I like these helpful articles:

And I have one idea of my own. If you're running out of baking time, serve Edy's Limited Edition Pumpkin ice cream for dessert. It's the next best thing to mom's pumpkin pie! |
Event Showcase
Last weekend, my family hosted our 6th annual Boo Bash for 30+ children and their parents. Featuring carnival games and prizes, concessions, tractor hayrides and entertainment by Witchy-Witch (aka The Unicycle Lady), everyone had a blast. I invite you to view the highlights (click here for photos) in hopes of inspiring creative Halloween party ideas for next year.
