Hello! Wow, where have the last six months gone?! I suppose it's just a good indicator that we've been very busy behind the scenes expanding the website with information, offerings and services.... Featherweight parts, electrical rewiring service, snap-on attachment feet, new hemmer tutorial, feedsack fabrics, sewing needles and, of course, spring children's clothing patterns - and that's just a sampling of the last six months. So, get a cup of tea and enjoy this month's Newsletter!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 1930's is now one of the most comprehensive Featherweight 221 & 222 parts websites available - there have been so many new things added to the site, it's definitely worth noting what's new! Whether you purchase that long lost part you've been looking for, share the site with a friend, or save the link for later - it will be a trusted resource for all Singer Featherweight parts, attachments and accessories. Each item is guaranteed and comes with technical support beyond the sale. Carmon, the Featherweight technician, knows the Featherweight inside and out and can assist you with any service or technical question. April uses her Featherweight machine almost daily and knows the sewing aspects for stitch perfection - not only with the Featherweight's renowned straight-stitch, but with the attachments as well. Below you will find a sampling of some of the new parts available.
Tension Unit, Bobbin Case Spring, Bobbin Winder, Bobbin Case, Gib Hook, Motor Cap Screw and so much more!
Snap It Up!
Have you seen the latest Quilting Attachments Page? We now have snap-on feet available as well. A few of the same kind of attachment feet you enjoy for your Featherweight can now be quickly snapped on to many of today's model sewing machines, too!
The most recent April 1930's attachment illustration features the use of the 1/4-Inch (6mm) Narrow Rolled Hemmer. Similar concept as the Original Singer Narrow (1/8th) Rolled Hemmer but even easier! Recently demonstrated at a local Quilt Shop, this attachment impressed all those gathered around. I used it recently to finish the ruffled pieces to an apron.
To see the finished apron, click here. Even on a bias curve, this 1/4-inch Narrow Hemmer rolled, turned, and stitched and pressed the hem down perfectly.
1930's Reproduction Feedsack Fabrics
Continuing with the 1930's theme, this is the new feature on the April 1930's website. The old prints remind us of a simpler,
conservative time period - where families gathered, shared, and conserved the
things they had on hand. Quantities are sold as a half yard and as with everything else on the April 1930's website, enjoy Free USA Shipping for fabric, too!
Needles of exactly the proper shape and of the very best quality are
absolutely essential to good work with a sewing machine. If you still have the original unused Singer brand needles in the little paper or
plastic packages (typically made in the
U.S.A. or Germany) - as long as they are not rusted or bent from
age, they are of the finest quality and you can use them with
confidence. Newer Singer needles (made
in Singapore, Brazil or the likes thereof), however, are not made
to the same superior quality that they once were, which is why we use
and recommend the Schmetz
brand of needles for today's modern sewist. The quality of Schmetz is
comparably equivalent to the original Singer needles. You will find Universal, Stretch, Hemstitch and Embroidery Needles available for order.
Also on the Sewing Needles page is an informative reference chart showing the Relationship of Types of Fabric, Thread and Needle Sizes as well as Machine Stitches to the Inch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's that time of year again - Oliver + S recently released their spring line of patterns and each one is available on the April 1930's website. Having the opportunity to sample and test each one, I assure you, these are the perfect addition to your little one's wardrobe. And, if you choose, the opportunity for the old Singer Attachments can be of use - just look at the pintucks on the little blouse!
Use the Tucker Attachment and yours will look just as nice! Remember to set your stitch length to about 20 stitches per inch for pintucks - the beauty is in the tuck, not the stitch, and should therefore disappear within the weave of the fabric.
