Hello!
Are you, your staff and your management team getting back in the fall groove fully engaged, ignited and feeling appreciated?
According to the results from a five-year study by Concept Reserve of 2,600 managers at 149 Fortune 1000 and other large organizations across the U.S. and Eastern Canada, more than 86 percent of managers are not fully engaged in their roles. Most are still operating as individual contributors or are stuck in transition to the manager role.
Since the manager's role sets the culture of a team, this finding indicates that the teams they lead are not performing optimally. It has been said, "People leave bosses, not companies." Effective management skills and best practices are critical to the evolvement of high-performance teams.
If your workforce is not fully engaged, ignited and feeling appreciated, the following management skills and best practices can improve the productivity and morale of your workforce:
- Communicate and clarify expectations.
- Hold people accountable for both technical and people skills.
- Keep your cool and check your ego at the door.
- Listen and implement employee suggestions as feasible.
- Give credit where credit is due.
- Appreciate and adapt to different work styles.
- Maintain confidentiality, fair treatment and respect with all employees.
- Delegate to develop greater skills and abilities.
- Give continuous feedback, praise and complete performance appraisals on time.
- Lighten up and bring some fun into work.
To you being engaged, ignited and appreciated this fall,
Nancy Stampahar
