Do You Embrace or Resist Change?

The fall season signifies many changes in our daily routines and spirits. Those lazy, hazy, fun days of summer are over, and people are back in their fast- paced modes of school, life and work. For some, renewed energy and focus take place. For others, frustration and negativity are the norm. Which path are you choosing to take? Which one will bring you greater results and fulfillment?

The key to most effectively deal with change is to first acknowledge what you are losing and leaving behind, not the fear of the unknown which most people think. If you deal with the losses then deal with the unknowns, you will embrace your change, feel the power and grow. Staying worried, confused and afraid of the unknowns, will leave you paralyzed, complacent and accepting of the status quo. Accepting the status quo gives people and companies the opportunity to fall behind. You need to find courage, to face your fears, to move forward, to feel the power and to grow.

It is well known that every organization and every individual must have change to survive and prosper. Change at work improves processes and increases a competitive advantage. Change in our personal world expands our opportunities to be honestly happy and to live a really great life. When you decide to resist change, you become complacent and will most likely lag behind. When you decide to embrace change, you become productive with an incredible lively spirit.

How to Embrace Change:

  1. Acknowledge what is no longer is going to happen. What are you losing?
  2. List the consequences if you do not embrace the change?
  3. List your realistic and unrealistic fears.
  4. List what will actuallly be different after the change takes place.
  5. Brainstorm and choose the best course of action, feel the power and grow.

The next time you experience change, put it in perspective: change in the workplace is not a matter of life and death. FALL FORWARD NOT BEHIND!
