Word of the Week: GIGGLE |
Yes, we're back in elementary school. Yes, we DID send Ronnie a Valentine even though he's in the other sixth grade class. And yes, we know what it is to have a case of the vapors because once upon a time people used words like that and Valentine's Day was capable of making us dizzy, even a bit queasy, in a good way. I hope most sincerely that your Valentine's Day 2012 does not include the vapors or sweaty palms or Charlie Brown-proportion disenchantment. Because I am so absurdly fond of the color red, I can get the giggles thinking about it. Red paper with tiny white polka dots, wee red-and-white checks, overblown roses so full you can almost smell them, nostalgic images of the way romance used to look, these are the stuff of great handmade cards. Or pick you own palette, your own sentiments. Be sure to include every Mrs. Grossman heart sticker in production, and toss in others, too. Stamp yourself silly, go to extremes with doilies and die cuts. Set a frou-frou laden holiday table for tea, place cards for all and party favors, tied with gossamer or glittering ribbon. We will show restraint on the 15th, or maybe a few days later, for February 14 is for a bit of excess, hearts on sleeves, chocolates, a gourmet bakery cupcake. Yes, of course I'll be your Valentine.
