 Word of the Week: project
The English language is home to words that sound the same and are spelled differently, words spelled the same yet with different pronunciation and meaning. Such as project, which in this case is pro-JECT, as in to cast forward. A reminder arrived last night in a bit of tv dialog about a ventriloquist who is able to, as they say, throw his voice beyond himself.  How do we escape our own gravity, travel past what we see as limitations; how do we project our wishes, dreams and visions? As with most things, the only approach I know is one step at a time. Old beliefs about the world and its workings, especially about ourselves, hinder our velocity. My mind always returns to rockets, the amount of fuel and energy necessary to launch them beyond Earth's pull. My belief in the power of our dreams, for rockets were once just that, the stuff of science fiction, tells me that such things are possible. Encouragement comes from unlikely or unexpected quarters. As I experience it, our fondest desires arrive on the installment plan, one bit of good at a time. A surprise gift, praise or appreciation, acknowledgement of a skill, a burst of energy and focus, a flash of inspiration, all help build a sense of self that grows stronger, more able to see that forward momentum is already in process. The journey has begun, we are part-way there.
