Behind and Beyond the Make-Up, Alice Cooper
Can Teach Us A Thing or 12 About Standing Out
and Being Successful in Business--Even Yours.

I have 27 days left as editor of Speaker magazine, the official publication of the National Speakers Association. My last issue is off the press and in the mail. Don't be sad. I knew it was coming, as does every editor. Each year brings a new president , leadership team and theme, ours being "NSA Rocks."

For my last hurrah, I pulled rank and wrote the cover story myself--on Alice Cooper and his book Golf Monster: A Rock 'n' Roller's 12 Steps to Golf Addiction. NSA President (for 27 more days) Mark LeBlanc gave me a copy of the book, saying whether you play golf or not (I don't)*, or like Alice Cooper or not (I do), it's actually a great business book.

Mark is right. Talk about being anything but blah, besides being a guy with a girl's name, Alice Cooper is credited with being the inventor of shock rock, with concerts that were (and still are) an elaborate stage show unlike any others. Without having to go to the extremes that he did, we can all learn something from this successful performer, philanthropic, recovered alcoholic, and faithful man who was accepted, befriended and esteemed by the likes of Bob Hope, Salvador Dali, Groucho Marx and Tiger Woods. If you play golf, you'll learn even more!

If you'd like to read the article I wrote, you can download the free PDF on the Bookstore page of my web site. Yes, you have to scroll past the stuff that's for sale first. What kind of marketing maven would I be otherwise?

*I don't play golf, but did take lessons as a teenager. Every now and then I'll goof around with friends. I'd be a rich woman if I had a dollar for every time I heard "You have a beautiful swing; why don't you play?"

Reminder to Self:
You still need to add the "CSP"
initials after your name.

Note to others: CSP stands for Certified Speaking Professional. Fewer than 10% of professional speakers world wide have earned the CSP designation, which is awarded by the National Speakers Association and International Federation for Professional Speakers. Which makes me one of the few and the proud, albeit too old for the Marines.
