Drivers of Behavior: Needs and Fears: Infrastructure planning and policy calls for decision-making that must be justifiable and stand up to public scrutiny. And that means considering not only impacts on users or customers, but also consideration of other factors such as wider economic benefits. And herein lies a problem, for one of the greatest fears of public agency staff is being caught unable to explain the justification for a decision or the logic process by which the wider benefits and costs were estimated. FAILURE TO ACT: ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE REPORT

 

The third report in ASCE's Failure to Act series focuses on electricity infrastructure.  The report, by EDR Group, assessed the long term economic consequences of the growing gap between needs and available electricity infrastructure, and the potential consequences on the future economy if sufficient electricity generation, transmission and distribution systems are not available. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF OHIO RIVER BRIDGES

 

For the Indiana Finance Authority, EDR Group performed an analysis of the economic and business strategic impacts of the proposed Ohio River Bridges Project, which includes building two new bridges, and reconstruction of an interchange and interstate ramps on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. The study also examined the economic consequences of bridges and tolling on the Louisville region.  Read more

SIX FLAGS LIVABLE CENTERS

 

As part of the broader Six Flags Livable Centers Initiative project, that which includes mixed-use development in an economically distressed area, EDR Group evaluated economic development opportunities for Cobb County, GA, just west of Atlanta.  The study area currently contains a mix of older residential and commercial uses, a regional entertainment venue in Six Flags Over Georgia, and a multitude of industrial uses. The team analyzed market support for housing, retail, office and industrial employment, identified barriers to development, and researched the role of available economic development tools and incentives in attracting investment and fostering economic revitalization. MISSOURI STATE RAIL PLAN

 

For the Missouri State Rail Plan, a strategic framework outlining the development of passenger and freight rail service in Missouri for the next 20 years, EDR Group assessed the statewide economic impacts of the rail system on industries and businesses in Missouri.  The firm also examined the economic impacts of existing and proposed passenger rail operations in the state, including proposals for introducing new high-speed rail service between St, Louis and Kansas City.  Read more
