Friends Written by Lillian Buck and Esperanza Duran Grade 2 Our school is very friendly. We've been talking about bullying. Next year we're sure that everyone will make friends with the new kids. We have learned to stand up for ourselves and others. There are always friends around here and all the bullies change. We love this school very much!

Third Grade Board Game
Written by Ryan Bee, Aidan Fischer, Hannah Pruitt amd Maddie Timmerman, Grade 3
Mrs. Choi picked out some students in our class to give them a challenge. The four students were Ryan Bee, Aidan Fischer, Hannah Pruitt, and Maddie Timmerman. They have been meeting once a week during lunch since the third quarter. They had to think of an idea for a project so they decided on making a board game. The board game is about a story they read called "Coyote Places the Stars.' They have been working on questions about all the things they learned in third grade. Alexa Lajiness, Maria Richard, Lauren Hitts and Ben Niedzielski joined the group during the fourth quarter. Both groups have finished the board game together.

7th Grade Enjoys Day at the Park
On Monday, May 21, the 7th grade class along with parent drivers, had the opportunity to not only have fun at a baseball game, but to also be part of a Career Day planned by the Mud Hens organization. Prior to the start of the game, members of the Mud Hens operations department shared information about their jobs and what they do as behind the scene workers of the organization. |

Eighth Grade Celebrates Pin and Ribbon
At our weekly school Mass this week, our eighth graders received their pin and ribbons from Father Whalen and Father Lehner as Mrs. Nachazel read off the names of the 21 students who will be graduating this coming Thursday.

As part of this traditional ceremony here at St. Pius X School, two seventh graders, Grace Kwiatkowski and Quinn Kleinfelter, were asked as representatives of their class, to step forward as receive a candle signifying the rite of passage and the realization that our eighth graders are leaving and the now seventh graders will move up at the leaders of the school beginning June 1.

God Speed, Mrs. Reed!
As the school year comes to an end, so does the teaching career of our Mrs. Marcia Reed. After much thought, Mrs. Reed has decided to shut down the computers for St. Pius X School on June 1 for the very last time.
We all wish Mrs. Reed good luck and a peaceful retirement. She looks forward to traveling, spend time with her husband and grandchildren and of course, quilting.
We love you and we will miss you! Please don't forget about us!

St. Pius X Community Vegetable Garden Needs 10 Families
I am seeking help with the vegetable garden over the summer. Ideally, I would like a family to take a week (or more) to simply water the garden. It is located outside the fifth grade classroom with a hose conveniently located near the garden. What an easy way to earn volunteer hours! You will help peppers, basil, tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce and carrots grow!
Please contact me with the week you choose: June 3, 10, 17, 24 July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 August 5
Thank you in advance, Mrs. Ohms spiusx_bine@nwoca.net

News from the Nurse:
Shelly Scheanwald RN
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year and as I look back, the students did an awesome job supporting our first JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) walk/fundraiser in the fall and the LLS (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) fund raiser this spring. What fun we had duct taping Mr. Foos to the gym wall for the LLS!
I challenge students again to make ONE healthy lifestyle change this summer. Examples could be: to drink more water, try a "new" healthy food, floss more, whole wheat instead of white, walk, bike, exercise more, learn a new sport, watch less TV or reduce computer game time. Please encourage your child to be active and take advantage of local fresh fruits and vegetables to be part of your daily diets. Students need to remember to stay hydrated with water, use sunscreen and sunglasses to protect skin and eyes. Don't forget water safety is of utmost importance when at the pool or pond/lake.
Any medications and/or epi pens/ inhalers need to be picked up from the office by Friday June 1st. New medication forms will need to be completed for the 2012-2013 school year. This includes prescription & non-prescription (OTC/over the counter) medications. A reminder that all medications, prescription and OTC need to be in original containers clearly marked with the name and dose of the medicine. Medications sent in baggies, envelopes, etc... will not be accepted.
A reminder to all 6th grade students ... the state mandated Tdap booster shot needs to be given before entry into 7th grade in August.
Parents please address any referral letters that were sent home this year regarding vision, hearing or scoliosis. Screenings are not a diagnosis of a problem, but a recommendation to have further evaluation.
I can be reached by email or cell phone over the summer at: ShellyA7@aol.com or (419) 262-9519.
Everyone have a FUN and safe summer!
