Kindergarten at Work...

On Wednesday, April 25th, the kindergarten class was part of a program given by the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center (FELC) from Tiffin. Sr. Shirley Shrafranek talked to the students about renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. Then students sorted "garbage" and found that most of what people consider garbage could be recycled. Sr. Shirley shared that only the only plastics that could be recycled are ones that have a 1 or 2 on the bottom. The kindergarten class discovered that the St. Pius X water bottles that many of them use are recyclable. At the end of the presentation, students made an adding game with non-recyclable egg cartons. This illustrated that things that cannot be recycled, can be reused.

Which weighs more - Baby Lucas - the baby elephant born last year at the Toledo Zoo - or the amount of clothes our St. Pius X students have donated for our Clothing drive?

If you guessed  Baby Lucas, you made the wrong choice!  Our St. Pius X families came through once again showing our pride and determination in helping others with 698 pounds so far.  This is awesome St. Pius!

The truck came yesterday to pick up our donations so far and the driver shared that the people from the Cherry Street Mission were waiting for him to get back because they were all so anxious for our clothing and donations.

Tuesday, May 1, the truck will be back picking up the rest of our donations.   Please try to get a bag of unneeded clothing together to help out this worthy cause.  We would love to have 100% participation.

May Crowning Honors

As part of our May Crowning tradition, all students in the eighth grade were encouraged to write an essay entitled "What Mary Means to Me."  The top four winning essay writers become the court for the crowning and the student receiving the most votes, as judged by the faculty, has the honor of crowning Mary. This year the May Crowning courts consists of  Ema Fish, Gregory Fretti, Briana Palmer and Abbi Weber.  Abbi Weber will be carrying the crown and Tvisha Martin has earned the honor of crowning Mary at our 8:30 AM school Mass on Wednesday, May 2.

Congratulations to Tvisha and all the members of the May Crowning Court!

Special People

This week we honor our school secretaries, Mrs. Jagielski and Mrs. Jagodzinski.  Stop by the office and give them each a big 'thank you' for all they do for SPX and all of you!

Pop Tab Update

I have collected 3 lbs, 6 oz of pop tabs for the week of April 23. That brings our total to 45 lbs, 7 oz, but I know there are more tabs in the St. Pius community. Can you please help in bringing more labelled pop tabs to school? We need 35 more pounds to reach our goal. Let's do it Pumas!
