As we enter into the days of Holy Tridium, it is the wish of all the faculty and staff of St. Pius X School that each and every one of you embrace this season with open hearts and take some time this week to reflect on how important our faith is in today's world. May the peace and comfort of the Easter season be with us all.

Feature Student Writer: Madeleine Timmerman, Grade 3
My third grade class learned about Jonas Salk in Social Studies. Jonas Salk was born in New York City on October 28, 1914. He died on June 23, 1995. He was the first member of his family to go to college.
In the 1950's, people got sick with polio mostly in the summertime. When Jonas was attending New York University he found an opportunity to try and make a vaccine for polio. While he was doing this, World War II started so it became difficult. He thought he found the cure once but it was not right. Jonas Salk never gave up. He still tried to find the vaccine for polio. He tried and tried. Then finally he got it! They used the medicine on people and they never got polio. In Social Studies we also learned about monuments. A monument is something created to honor someone special. If I were to make a monument about Jonas Salk I would create a sculpture. The reason I chose Jonas Salk is because my grandpa has polio. Jonas Salk made a vaccine for polio so we do not have to worry about getting it.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...
Help us keep our students safe!!!
Tuesday and Thursday are gym days at St. Pius X School. Whenever possible, Mr. Laberdee takes the classes outside and will be using either the field or the parking lot. When there are students outside, cars and their drivers need to honor the fact that the gates are closed for a reason. The gates need to remain closed until gym classes are over. After gym class, we will have the gates open and you may then enter and begin the car line to pick up your students.
PLEASE do not open the gates and drive in the parking lot when the students are having their gym classes.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping your children and our students safe.

Blue Jug T-shirts
The Blue Jug is Friday, April 20 at St. Francis deSales High School. The Blue Jug is a basketball game between the 7th and 8th grade girls and the 7th and 8th grade boys. This game is a fun-filled activity where everyone gets to come out and show their support of our middle school students.
Every year, the students in 7th and 8th grade pick a team name - 7th grade - Lucky Ducks and 8th grade - Gladiators. This year we are offering the student body the opportunity to purchase a t-shirt and show your support for your favorite team. The Gladiator shirt is black with a logo designed by Sebastien Johnson and the Lucky Ducks shirt is neon green with the logo designed by Quinn Kleinfelter.
Shirts are $13.50 each and orders are due by Wednesday, April 11. This is the day we return from our break.
If you want to purchase a t-shirt, please send a check made out to: St. Pius X School for $13.50. Give the team name you wish to support - Gladiators or Lucky Ducks - and your shirt size. (Please state adult or youth size shirt!)
