 Science Olympiad = Success
  by Jude Platz, Grade 6

On Saturday, March 3, all the hard work of the twenty four 6th, 7th and 8th graders was shown as they competed against 18 other schools in a science competition.  From the beginning of the year until March 2, middle school students met for an hour after school on Tuesdays and Fridays as an extra curricular activity called Science Olympiad.  The students were assigned certain projects to work on.  Their projects ranged from building towers to taking a 50 question test.

At 6:15 AM on Saturday morning, March 3, cars packed with kids left for Lima, Ohio.  There at The Ohio State University Lima Campus, the students competed against 18 other schools from around the area.  Gregory Fretti, Quinn Kleinfelter, and Abbi Weber brought home four second place medals.  The team came in 12th overall which everyone was very proud of.  Mrs. Ujvagi said, "(We did) amazing.  I am really proud of all your work."  Fifteen students actually competed but those who were not competing still went and had fun.  It was an overall successful day and everyone had fun!

NEWS FROM THE NURSE

Help us STICK it to Mr. Foos...

Our Pennies for Patients fundraiser has officially started! Our school goal is $1,300.00. Students are encouraged to fill their individual collection boxes with spare change (pennies, nickles, dimes, & quarters) to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

We are selling paper pennies for $1, and having a dollar jeans day on Monday March 26th. Students are also challenged to guess the count of "white" and "red" blood cells in the containers. Guesses can be made in the office and cost $.25 cents for two guesses. Winner gets ½ the pot for their class box.

NOW FOR THE BIG NEWS..... Start saving, because Mr. Foos is doing his part for the LLS and has agreed to be "STUCK FOR A BUCK!" $1 buys a piece of duct tape to stick Mr. Foos to the gym wall on Friday March 23rd! We encourage Staff, Students, and Parents to take part in this. We will be offering a duct tape roll deal (for those who think one piece isn't enough)! Thomas Richardson has agreed to calculate how much duct tape we will need to "hang him up"! Money for duct tape can be brought in now up until the 23rd. All duct tape sales will count toward student's class total.

Students.... Keep collecting that spare change over break. Remember, "EVERY PENNY COUNTS"!
