St. Pius X School Celebrates Catholic Schools Week
Students and Faculty Honored at Weekly Mass

Our St. Pius X students and faculty were honored at this week's Mass by our principal, Mrs. Richardson.  Students were given their honor ribbons for the second quarter and all students were encouraged to continue to work hard and do their personal best. Academic honors and Principal awards were handed to the students by their teachers as Mrs. Richardson called off their names.

Mrs. Richardson also honored each of our St. Pius X faculty members and staff with  beautiful pins and thanked each one of them for all they do to make St. Pius X School special.

The second graders along with a class representative from each grade helped make this mass extra special.  Thank you to all of the parents and family members who helped us celebrate our Mass for Catholic Schools Week.

TEENS for Jeans Collection
by Sydney Enck and Taylor Rhoades
Starting tomorrow, Friday, February 3, the eighth grade class will be sponsoring Teens for Jeans.  Aeropostale is collecting jeans from schools all around the nation and will then donate them to homeless teens.  The eighth graders are asking all students from grades Pre-K through grade 8 to bring in any gently worn jeans of any brand and put them in the donation boxes in each of their classrooms.  On Friday, February 10th, the jeans will be tallied and the class with the most jeans will receive a free Jeans Day Pass.  Did you know that one out of every three homeless person is under the age of 18.  1.6 to 1.7 million people under 18 will experience homelessness this year?
PLEASE help the homeless by supporting our project!

8th Grade Presents "What Not to Wear" Style Show for Student Body
                                                   by Briana Palmer, Grade 8

On Monday, January 30, our 8th grade students put on their edition of our St. Pius X Dress Code Fashion Show.  The event was held in the Family Life Center.  Thanks to Mr. Hoschak and Mr. Graham, there was a stage, runway and a backdrop of our school.  Music filled the air as each student modeled either a proper or improper way to wear their specific dress code items.
The purpose behind this whole production was to remind the younger students at St Pius just what the proper school attire looks like and how important it is to abide by our dress code.   Another goal was to help lessen the amount of dress code violations that are handed out on a daily basis.  Our hope is for not only more respect for the SPX dress code overall but also maybe we might even save a few trees in the process!

Quiz Bowl Team vs Faculty
As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration, the SPX Quiz Bowl team took on the SPX faculty and staff in three memory-making matches.  The SPX Quiz Bowl team was off to a good start and won the first match 23-14.  Unfortunately for the first match winners, it was all down hill after that.  Our SPX Faculty and Staff pulled through and were victorious winning the remaining two matches, 2-27 and 9-30.  All in all, a great time was had.
