Henry Ford Museum Field Trip Reflection
by Ben Niedzielski, Grade 3 My class went to the Henry Ford Museum. I went to see Rosa Parks bus and the new Wizard of Oz exhibit. My favorite thing was Rosa Parks bus. It was the real bus. Rosa Parks was famous because she would not give up her seat to a white person and she got arrested. The field trip was awesome. I would feel great if I went again.
Henry Ford Museum Field Trip Reflection
by Madeleine Timmerman, Grade 3
I went to the Henry Ford Museum on Thursday and it was really fun. I saw the chair Abraham Lincoln sat in and it looked very old. I saw what old schools looked like and they did not have desks that can hold books. I liked the Wizard of Oz exhibit because there were a lot of cool things. I like the witch's broom climbing the wall there. I like the field trip because I learned a lot about heroes and leaders that did important things. If I could go again, I would feel really excited and happy because it is a fun place and I can learn a lot there. |

Angel Tree
As you can see by the picture, there are still a few ornaments left on our St. Pius X Parish Angel Tree. This year we will be helping 17 families with our Angel Tree. If you would like to participate, please take an ornament from the tree, purchase the gift and return the wrapped gift with the ornament attached by Sunday, December 11. If you are unable to get an ornament and would like to participate, you can donate Kroger gift cards, gas gift cards, or cash to the parish to be used toward necessities for our Angel Tree families. Items may be taken to the parish office or dropped off in the school office.

Box Tops and Campbell's Labels
Lisa Eisinger, Chariperson
I would like to give an extra 'Thank you' to Taylor Rhoades and her family for the 2211 Campbell's points! With everyone else's labels, I am sending in 2366 points this week. I am also sending in $65.00 to Box Tops. Our total for the April check that we will be receiving right now is $183.20. Please encourage your family and friends to save their Box Tops for us. This is basically free money. If every family sent in just 10 Box Tops, that would be an easy $200.00 added to what we already have for our April check.
The top four classes are:
Grade 8 - 2307 points
Grade 6 - 578 points
Grade 7 - 426 points Way to go, Middle School!
Grade 3 - 356 points |

St. Louis Helping Hands School-Wide Christmas Drive
by Jamie Joyce, Grade 7
The seventh grade class is taking on the role of Ambassadors for this year's Advent Mission Project for our school. St. Louis Helping Hands needs our help in providing much needed food and household items for the poor and needy people of Toledo. From December 5th - December 19th, they will oversee and manage the SPX food drive. The food items they have requested are as follows; canned soups, canned fruits, cereal, tuna and macaroni and cheese. Other items needed are: grocery bags (paper or plastic), new or used pots and pans, new or used bed sheets, new or used towels and new or used blankets.
Please go the extra mile and help us with this worthy cause! We have made this service project into a fun way to help others by making it a contest between each of the grades. Points are awarded to each class for the items brought in. One point will be awarded for each food items donated and two points will be awarded for household items. Clean out your closets to help us help the less fortunate. A secret surprise will be given to the class that donates the most. Thanks, and remember to help others this holiday season!

University of Toledo 'Star Mentee Program'
For the past couple of years, St. Pius X School has had the honor of working with the University of Toledo and Dr. M. Tiamiyu and her students through the Star Mentee Program where UT students participate in an academic mentoring and tutoring program specifically for St. Pius X. This past quarter, 17 students from the university interacted and worked with our students in all grade levels. Through this service learning class, our students benefited in all academic areas with the input from the UT students.
A farewell luncheon and sharing session was held on Tuesday as we bid farewell to this class of university students and we anxiously await the arrival of new students from UT in January. |

These middle school students Taylor, Kalie, and Sydney have on nice warm coats, leggings (pants) and are still cold!!! They forgot their gloves!!!!!!!
Baby... It's Cold Outside!
...and because it is cold outside, PLEASE help us by having your children wear COATS, HATS, and GLOVES to school. This past week the temperatures were below 30 degrees and we had many students, especially our middle school students, going outside for recess in just a sweatshirt. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE encourage the wearing of coats, hats and gloves! |

Koby Weis, Laura Mosler and Olivia Butkowski prepare for their March competition.
Science Olympiad by Olivia Butkowski, Grade 6
In the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, you get many special privileges such as wearing khaki's as part of your uniform or sitting on the bleachers for school assemblies. One of my favorite privileges is Science Olympiad. Science Olympiad is a special group that meets on Tuesday's and Friday's to discuss science topics. This year's Science Olympiad team will compete in Lima, Ohio on March 3. Students will choose the events that they will be working on and then competing in. A few of the main events that our team will be focusing on are anatomy, mouse trap vehicle, and storm the castle using catapults. The moderator of our Science Olympiad team is Mrs. Ujvagi and she is also the 6th grade homeroom teacher and Middle School Science teacher. This club helps you have fun while learning new Science topics and ideas.

Daily Drop-Off and Pick-Up of Students: Before and After School
For the safety of all our students, teachers, valet team members and anyone one else who is in our parking lot before or after school, this message is directed to you!
Many countless hours over the years have been devoted to coming up with a secure and effective plan to provide a safe procedure for morning drop off of students and pick up of our students after school has dismissed. To those of you who comply and help keep our students and teachers safe, we applaud you. To those who are not real sure of what to do at either time, please read on! In the morning: * all students who are brought to school by car , before 8:00 AM, need to be dropped off at the GYM doors. If you bring your children to school after 8:00 AM, you may drop your children off at the main door of the school. If you need to come into the building, please park your car in the designated parking places in the center of our lot and come in through the main doors. At 3:00 PM: *ALL STUDENTS that are being picked up by a car need to be picked up in the circle at the front of the school. This means that no one should be parking behind the school, on the side streets or in the parking lot by the pre-school classroom. If you need to pick your student up prior to the 3:00 bell, please come into the building and sign them out.
There have been too many close calls and we would like to use this as a friendly reminder that safety is our first and foremost concern. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please contact the office.

The Ohio House of Representatives have introduced a bill, House Bill 136, also known as the Parental Choice and Taxpayer Savings (PACT) Scholarship, that, if passed, would provide income based vouchers so families could send their children to a participating private school. These vouchers would be worth up to $4,626 per student for a family of four earning $61,189 or $2,313 per student for a family of four earning $95,000.
The bill creates ways for parents' tax dollars to follow the education of their children, regardless whether they have attended public or chartered nonpublic schools. In order for this bill to pass, your representative needs to hear from YOU! If you do not know who your Ohio representative is, visit: www.legislature.state.oh.us/.
For an overview of the bill, please visit the Parish website at: www.parish.org.
