11-11-11 at 11:11:11
                     by Briana Palmer, Gr. 8

This past Thursday the date read 11-11-11.  The identical digits that made up the date are supposed to indicate good luck.  To remember the good fortune of the day, this picture was taken under the clock at exactly 11:11:11.  November 11, 2011 will never happen again and it is very exciting for us eighth graders to have a piece of the day to hold on to.  We will have these moments to remember...

Thanksgiving Feast

Please enjoy our thanks - giving turkey made by the entire student body of St. Pius X School.  Our thanks- giving turkey consists of a Puma paw print from each student stating what they are thankful for this holiday season.  This picture may be deceiving.  Its actual size is at least 6 feet tall. Nice job, St.Pius!!!

A soon to be yearly tradition began today as a traditional Thanksgiving Feast with everything including the whipped cream and pumpkin pie was shared by over 250 faculty, staff and students.  Mrs.  Richardson began the meal with prayer and food and fellowship was shared by all.

Many thanks to all of our families who so generously donated the yummy desserts to complete our feast. And, a big thank you to all of the parents and faculty who helped served our guests.  We could not have done it without you! As an added feature, Channel 13 was there to film our festive meal.  Look for us on the news this evening.   Remember to ask your child/children who was at their table and who they shared this special lunch and recess with.

Box Tops and Campbell's

Lisa Eisinger

First, I am sorry about the delay in getting the 2nd graders their Jeans Day passes.  I hope to get them out before our Thanksgiving break. Second, the 2nd quarter prizes will again be Jeans Day passes for the class with the highest combined total and a goody bag for the students with the highest  individual totals.  This week I am sending in $118.20 to Box Tops and 121 points to Campbell's.  We were able to get a large box of oil pastels for Mrs. Puppose to use with the students in art class.  Thank you again for supporting these programs.  The top four classes are:  grade 6, 534 points, grade 7, 359 points, grade 4, 191 points and grade 3 with 106 points.

Check Us Out!

Hopefully you recognize our faces.  We are the St. Pius X School Valet Team.  Every morning we are at your disposal, opening car doors, helping our fellow students out of their cars and then sending the families on their way.  Check out our new sweat shirts.  (Thank you, Mrs. Richardson!)

Gobble, Gobble - How Many Ways Can You Design a Turkey?

Happy Thanksgiving from some of our Kindergarten students!  Puma Pride is alive in the halls of St. Pius X School as our young artists show off their turkey treasures.  Please stop in and get into the holiday spirit and see ALL of the kindergarteners' art work.

Conference Reminder!

Our Middle School students have been working very hard getting their portfolios in tip-top order for their upcoming student-led conferences on Monday and Tuesday, November 21 and 22.  All St. Pius X families should have received their confirmation time for their conference.  Conferences begin at 3:30 on Monday afternoon and continue again on Tuesday until 12:00 noon.  If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Youth Group News

St. Pius X Youth Group has 22 youth and 4 adults traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference from November 17-20.  This conference is held every other year and St. Pius Youth Group is proud to be so well represented at this enriching event.  During the conference, which expects about 27,000 youth, students will choose workshops to attend, participate in Reconciliation or Adoration, shop the numerous vendors, listen to Christian music, and participate in many fun games at the theme park.  NCYC will uplift and rejuvenate the youth of America's faith.  Check out the pictures of this inspiring and fun venture in the weeks to come!  God Speed!
Prayer Request

Please remember in your prayers our school nurse, Shelly Scheanwald and her family, on the recent death of her mother, Dorothy Borchert.  May God grant you always...a sunbeam to warm you.  A moonbeam to charm you.  A sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you.  Laughter to cheer you.  Faithful friends near you.  And, whatever you pray, heaven to hear you!  (An Irish blessing).
Thank YOU to Uncle John's!

A Big THANK YOU to Uncle John's Pancake House for donating the luscious pancake batter for our Breakfast with the Principal.  Students were invited to share in pancakes, sausage, orange juice and milk as a reward for magazine sales.  Mrs. Gerathy and staff did a fantastic job in making sure that no one walked away hungry.

Quiz Bowl Update
Our St. Pius X 7th and 8th grade quiz bowl team continues to perform and win.  This past week, St. Pius was victorious over Regina Coeli, 12-9 and St. John's Point Place with a score of 12-6.  Way to go, Pumas!

St. Pius X Day at Barnes and Noble

Do you have a favorite book?  Is there a person on your Christmas list who is hard to buy for?  Or, do you basically just love to read?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you need to mark your calendar and join us at Barnes and Noble, Monroe Street, on Wednesday, December 7, for our St. Pius X School Reads for Kids Bookfair.  When you check out, just mention St. Pius.  Can't come to the store?  You can purchase online using our bookfair ID #10569051.  At 6:30 that evening in the children's section, a selection of holiday books will be read by Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Patrilla and CHAMP.  Proceeds from this day will go towards purchases from our St. Pius Angel Tree.

Santa Shop Volunteers Needed

Santa Shop is Friday, December 2, 2011.  This year vendors will be selling their wares at individual booths so students will be able to visit the different shops to make their purchases.

Help is needed in three different areas:  gift wrapping, help with shopping, and food donations.  We are providing a potluck for the vendors and volunteers. We are looking for a variety of soups, salads and desserts

Students will shop with their classes from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Your donated food items need to be brought to the school by 10:30 am so we can set up the potluck for the workers and vendors.

If you can donate food, contact:  Yolanda Taylor-Brown at msyjtaylor@yahoo.com

If you can donate your time, contact:  Aili Meyers at quiltgirl@bex.net

Preschool Class Prepares for Christmas Program

Mark your calendars now!  Our annual St. Pius X School Christmas Program is Wednesday, December 15.  As you can see by the picture, our preschool class is already busy practicing and learning their songs for this exciting evening as we get ready to celebrate the Christmas holiday!

Gym Uniform Orders
Just a reminder...order sheets and payment for gym uniforms are due by Monday, November 21.  If you need an order blank, please contact the office.  With the weather turning colder, we have added long sleeve gym shirts.  Students should  come dressed for the weather and it is always smart to layer your clothes, wear a sweatshirt and if you get warm, you can always take it off.
