Big Ten Honors

University of Illinois senior kickerDerek Dimke and freshman running back Donovonn Young earned weekly Big Ten honors following Illinois' 23-20 win over Western Michigan on Saturday. Dimke was named Special Teams Player of the Week and Young was named Freshman of the Week after they helped the Illini improve to 4-0 for the first time in 60 years.

Have You Ordered Your Illini QBC Gameday Apparel?

Gameday was opened as a sporting goods store in Campustown in 1986, and is the Gameday Spirit is the only Official Fan Store of the Fighting Illini. We now operate as the premier Illini Spirit Shop on campus. Gameday is locally owned and operated by 3 Illinois alumni and fans, and are proud of our orange and blue heritage. Our focus is Illinois athletics. Our mission is to provide every Illini fan and alumni with the best value and selection of Illinois merchandise available.
Hello, Illini Nation!
We are 4-0. Feels Great, Doesn't It?

Greetings!

Where do we start. What do we talk about first? The game? The players and their ability to focus and to believe? Our coaches and their ability to build and to lead? The fans? The band? How about our national ranking? Yes, we certainly have a lot to talk about. So, plan to attend this Friday's lunch or stop by our Saturday Tailgate Tent to show your support and excitement for where this program is headed. Bring a friend, who knows, they just might want to become a member. Go Illini!

Next week will be our first Thursday night meeting of the year. The Quarterback Club will host the Coaches Radio Show in the Colonnades Club at Memorial Stadium. Cool? You bet. Have you been there before? Have any of your friends been to an event in the Colonnades Club. Well, it's a big deal. Just stand there and look out on the football field. Check out these pictures,

Remember how you felt the first time you were there. Well, spread the feeling around a little bit. That's right, BRING A FRIEND! There are a few things, a few changes to keep in mind.l
  • Dinner will be served at 5:30. Cost is $20.00 and reservations are required. Required! You can make a reservation by responding to one of the following email addresses. obs1452@outback.com or mcminnes@sbcglobal.net. All reservations must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3 for the October 6 Coaches Show.
  • If you can not make dinner, there will be a cash bar and social hour from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., when the Coaches Show starts. The bar will remain open during the show and we will stay afterwards until 9:00 p.m. The cost .... FREE! There is no cost for members or non-members to attend. Remember, reservations are required for dinner, but not to attend the radio show or the social. So, pass on the news, it is a great way for people to become familiar with the Quarterback Club.

Keep in mind that we have 40 yard line tickets that are available for most of the remaining home games. Just contact Club President, Jim Vasica at obs1452@outback.com.

Tailgate? The purpose of the tailgate tent was to give members a place to stop before the game, but also, to attract new members. It is always great to see members, watch the Marching Illini and have a good tailgate meal with a beverage. So, plan to stop by if you have not, so far. As far as membership goes, it must be working. 15% of our membership this year is from new members!

Don't forget about our bus trips. Indiana, well, you missed the bus! But the Purdue game still has available seating. A bus seat and game tickets cost $110, per person. If you go to our web site you will find contact information and pricing for all upcoming trips. Just follow this link, http://www.illiniqbc.com/index.php/about-iqbc/.

One last thing. Illini Volleyball. Number 1 ... in the nation! Congratulations to the entire team, to Coach Hambly and to Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Erin Johnson. Go Illini!

Coach Zook Returns to QBC Luncheon

Coach Zook will be the featured speaker this week, at the QBC

Homecoming Luncheon. Pre-game Fridays are very hectic at the Division I level. As Illinois remains in the national spotlight, media demands on Coach Zook are increasing. The members of the QBC respect the opportunity we have to hear the inside version of what is happening. Arrive early and bring a friend. Prepare your questions and submit them to a QBC Board Member. If you missed Coach Zook's comments from this weeks Press Conference you can check them out on Fighting Illin.com.

Opening statement:
"All right, it's a new season, obviously, you know, we kind of break the season down into phases. And we're going onto the - I don't know, I don't want to say the most important phase, it is very, very important because it's the Big Ten and getting into that schedule. But we're excited about where we are, excited about what we've done. I think if you go back and you look at the last four games, we've learned a lot and we've still got a lot to learn, obviously. But our guys feel good about the things they've accomplished, but on the same token, as I told them, it's starting all over. It's a new season; we're in the Big Ten. Obviously, this game has got an awful lot of things - it's the first Big Ten game, you know, it's our natural rivalry, and it's Homecoming. So there's gonna be an awful lot of excitement and so forth going on around that.

And, that excitement will start at the Illini QBC luncheon on Friday. Here the Coach and see members of the Marching Illini. How's that for spirit.

Joining Coach Zook will be Marching Illini Band Director Barry Houser. Professor Houser became Visiting Assistant Director of Bands and Conductor of Athletic Bands in 2011. Prof. Houser has most recently served as Director of Bands & Director of Athletic Bands at Eastern Illinois University.  His success at Eastern Illinois is a matter of record and has been the source of positive national attention.

Note to the Marching Illini. You get our vote for 12th man! Note to WMU Bulldogs. Hey, this is the Big Ten. Get over it. Snap the ball.

Welcome to the Illini Quarterback Club, Barry.
