NEMO AHEC Awarded MFH Grant: Health Career Clubs
|
In December, NEMO AHEC received notice of grant award for the creation of High School Health Career Clubs in six ultra rural northeast Missouri schools.
The 3-yr award totaling $179,968 will enable over 100 students from rural schools to attend anatomy dissection labs, college visit days, CPR and bloodborne pathogen training, and other related fieldtrips. Additionally, the grant allows for school-based clubs, bus transportation, advisor stipends, and a 0.5FTE Regional HOSA Coordinator located at the NEMO AHEC office.
Students will enroll in Health Occupations Students of America, a national career training student organization (CTSO) endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education; train; and become eligible to compete against other high school students at the State HOSA Conference. Local school agreements are underway and we anticipate showcasing each school in future editions of Career Connections.
Funding for this project is provided in part by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The Missouri Foundation for Health is a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves.
