I hope you had a good night rest and that you are getting ready to start this beautiful day ahead of us. If it is raining where you live: rejoice, if it is sunny: rejoice, if it is cold:rejoice and if it is hot:rejoice because this is the day the Lord has made for you and I.
So Jesus handpicked 3 disciples to go pray with him in the garden of Gethsemane, one of them was Peter. Yesterday we read that Jesus asked the 3 disciples to pray for him because his soul was overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.
So Jesus came back to the disciples and found them sleeping. Jesus. The disciples did not understand what was happening, they did not know how serious the situation really was?
Jesus warns us of something really important in these verses: never to stop being watchful and never to stop praying. When we stop doing the one or the other, we will fall in temptation. I encourage you to read the verses and ask God to guide you and reveal to you what this means for your walk with Christ. We are full of good intentions, yet our actions destruct people and put them in danger, we become stumbling blocks for others and we harm ourselves along the way. All in the name of Jesus, we give God a bad name when we do not honor him.
Not because we are following Christ we automatically do the will of God. We need to understand that and recognize that. One hour the disciples could not stay awake to do what Christ called them to do, watch and pray. I am writing a list of the things that the spirit wants to do and mark those things that I know I won't do because I recognize that my flesh is weak for. And pray until the spirit wins, that happens only through him who gives me strength Phi 4:13. Some of us need to pray more, some of us need to return to our first calling, some of us need to give their tithing, some of us need to be honest and speak in truth at all times, some of us need to love God with all of our minds, soul, heart and strength. Peter was the first to say that he would never deny Christ just a few hours before they got to the garden. His "love" seemed to be passionate by his words, yet his action spoke of a mediocre love he had for Christ. That makes me wonder how mediocre is my love for Christ, it makes me evaluate my actions a bit more strictly.
What will we do with the day ahead of us, how will we use it?
40"Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. 41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
42 He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.
