Get Wisdom at any cost
1 Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. 2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. 3For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. 4 Then he taught me, and he said to me, "Take hold of my words with all your heart;keep my commands, and you will live. 5Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Proverbs 4:1-5
My father always has a cheesy joke at any given time. I love them! So the apple does not fall far from the tree. A person once told me this joke about a hen and a frog and this is the kind my father would tell.
One day a hen went to the library and asked for 5 books; the next day the hen came again and he wanted 5 more books and returned the ones from the day before. The following day the hen came back again and returned the books and picked about 10 more books this time. The librarian was puzzled and followed the hen to see what it did with the books. So they got to a pond nearby. The hen stood at the side of the pond, showed the titles of the books to the frog and at each title the frog replied with a bored face: Read it, read it, read it!
Author Tom Davis talks about fear in chapter 6. He mentions that fear keeps us from going outside our structured boundaries in our lives and keep us from doing the things God wants us to do. This verse Proverbs 4:1-5 is God's voice as a father speaking to his Sons. God said he is giving us sound learning. I have many memories of my father yet I don't remember a time when he gave me a good advice that changed my life. Yet I have the most fond memories of him and I smile when I think or speak to him. Maybe you don't have many memories of your father or they are getting vague in your memory because of time. But the good news is that our Father in heaven is providing teachings that help us endure and face life outside our comfort zone, as Davis mentions in ch. 6. Perhaps fear is keeping you from the calling of your life and you need advice more then ever before with your ministry. The Bible says Man-up get wisdom at any cost! Get out of your comfort zone because the Lord your God will be with you. Fear not, our heavenly Father hears your prayer, your fears and sees your faith and trust in him. Wisdom is the key that opens and closes many doors- Got Wisdom?
