Frequently I hear my clients and others say, "We need to boost our spirits." In our challenging world it's not uncommon to hear "spirits are low." So how do we lift our spirits?

Jerusalem

I just returned from a two week pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. (The 14 hour flight, exhausting walking tours, and "unique" diets reiterated my belief that we must be of strong mind, body and spirit to fulfill our life "assignments,"...but more on that next month!)

Israel is a land of many religions. Never have I witnessed people so committed to their faiths. They live it, breathe it, sing it, chant it, and some literally wear it. It was fascinating to observe their "sacred spaces," where they connect with their God to lift their spirits.

Whether it was at the Western (Wailing) Wall, a mosque, synagogue, or the Sea of Galilee, people claimed the sacred spaces and prayed.

Where is your sacred space? Where do you go to connect with your God to lift your spirits?

One woman told me she sits in her grandma's rocker to pray for fifteen minutes each morning. Another busy mom claimed a corner of her laundry room! One man sneaks into the hospital chapel for ten minutes a day on his break.

Physically, I'm back on the corner of my couch each early morning, but my mind and spirit will be on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Create your sacred space. Connect with your God fifteen minutes each day. That is the best way to truly lift your spirits. Doing so lifts the spirits of those around you too.
