The NFL and the Western Dairy Council have teamed up to help us raise healthier kids. The lessons are quite simple, teaching children how to eat healthy foods and to play and stay active for 60 minutes a day. Let's join them!
It's great that 68% of schools are implementing this behavior, and just think how much better it would be if the whole family joined in.
Besides eating non-processed healthy food, try starting a new fitness tradition with your family. For example, reserve evenings for after-dinner walks or weekend mornings for biking (or tricycling!) It doesn't cost a penny to rediscover the joy of tag and other childhood games. You are sure to feel young again after a rousing game of duck duck goose!
Playing with your kids, your mate, or even your friends and neighbors for 60 minutes is a great way to balance your life and live your priorities. At one of my seminars a young mom shared her best way of combining both. When her kids get off of the school bus she, and her husband if he is home, walk around the cul-de-sac with them while they talk about their days. This ritual gives a family a lot more than just exercise, doesn't it? It says to the kids, you are the most important thing to me and I can hardly wait for you get home so we can all do this together.
If we join in Fuel-Up and Play60 we will lower our risk of heart attacks, diabetes, bone cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis, backaches, high blood pressure, depression and stress...and it will increase our family's health and happiness too.
Wishing you good food and fun!
