Volunteer NewsletterJuly 2011
Greetings!
Scott Myers 1Throughout the year World Sport Chicago hosts and supports  events which celebrate Olympic values like friendship, respect and fair play.  Last month was filled with events that highlight and capture these values and promote positive and creative ways to engage youth in sport.  Be sure to take a quick look at the "June At-A-Glance" section in this month's newsletter for a recap of June events, which include the launch of "One Summer Chicago."

One Summer Chicago is our pilot summer anti-violence initiative.  In just one month we have established programs that will engage over 700 youth across the city.  These programs are spread across the four pilot communities of Little Village, Garfield Park, Woodlawn and Englewood.  As violence during the summer months continues to be an increasing concern in Chicago, this program presents an opportunity for the youth in these communities to be safe this summer as they engage in a variety of sports.  An example of just one of these programs is an initiative that integrates sports, life skills development and exposure to career possibilities in a safe environment.  It is through these innovative programs that we hope more youth can benefit from the Olympic spirit as they learn the values that can come from sports and are able to build stronger lives.

Sincerely,

Scott Myers
