MEET THE NEWBIES
Fred Wickham
Vice President of Creative Marketing
We are very excited to welcome the newest edition to the Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards family, Fred Wickham. Fred said that he joined our Marketing team at the end of November 2010 to help "lead the company as it explores and utilizes new and effective marketing partnerships, practices, and mediums." He is "also the lead for packaging and design control." Fred comes to us with a very strong background in marketing and design work and his history with the winery is very unique. "I came to Hazlitt's as a full time employee because I have worked with the winery for 25 years (I developed all of the original packaging and the Red Cat character) and always liked the people and the work environment." Fred also said coming from an agency background with multiple clients this position "gives him the opportunity to focus on one client and to really give it his full effort." The one thing he said that he really loves about this job is that "it's great fun to be creative and do it for a real job - I get to play with crayons every day!" When Fred's not here working at the winery, we usually find him in his home working on his farm. Fred "owns and runs his own Riesling, Cayuga White, Concord and Gruner Veltliner grape and tree fruit farms. You can pick cherries, apples, and peaches that are sold at his farm stand." So when he is not working he enjoys sailing, mountain biking, skiing and scuba diving. Fred loves to cook, homemade pizza is his favorite to make!
Nancy Barber Executive Assistant
Nancy Barber re-joined the Hazlitt team at the end of October 2010 as the Executive Assistant to Doug Hazlitt, Leigh Triner, and President John Keeler. She will tell you she just sits in her chair and swings back and forth all day, but really she plays the key role of keeping our Executive team organized and balanced! Nancy has earned the nickname "work wife" because of her strong ability to keep the team (Doug) scheduled and focused through her direct communication skills. Nancy worked at Hazlitt a few years ago as our Tasting Room Manger and after a couple years here, she decided to leave the wine industry and hit the slot machines at Tioga Downs as their Group Sales Executive. With the new acquisition at Naples Nancy decided "to take the leap back into the familiar family business that she loves." She said that her new role here is "somewhat challenging and you never know what each day is going to bring. It's fun, humorous, and there is a real sense of family from all the co-workers here (which coming from the corporate world is sometimes hard to find)."
When Nancy isn't at work organizing and being a "work wife" she is home being a real wife and mother to her two grown children. She is a "Jersey girl", born and raised, and doesn't think twice at taking a weekend jaunt for family bonding and intense shopping back home. Nancy is a loyal New York Jets and Mets fan. Her favorite food is her mother's lasagna. Her drink of choice is Coors Light bottles (yes beer!). Nancy's biggest weaknesses are chocolate and the Jersey Shore (not the show! which she say's is not an accurate depiction of the area!)
Jim Hines Warehouse Manager, Bottling Supervisor
Jim Hines joined the Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards family in mid-September 2010. Jim is in charge of keeping the warehouse neat, wines stacked, orders filled, UPS orders, FedEx orders, supervising the bottling line, and keeping things sterile and kosher. And he says for the bottling line to run they need to "run sample bottles, after sample bottles, we're good to go!" Basically he is the keeper of the wine that you all love to drink! Jim came to work for Hazlitt's because he has always known the Hazlitt brothers and wanted the opportunity to work for Doug. He said he used to be a bartend at a bar that they frequented back in the day and they had many beers together. He loves to work here because it's always different and challenging which keeps him on his toes. Jim said he would like to "thank Doug and Leigh for the job and Michael Reidy for his guidance since he has been here."
When Jim is not hanging out in the warehouse, you may find him hunting, riding his Harley or cruising around in his Corvette. Some of Jim's favorite things include Fried Chicken, White Stag, Coors Light, Miami Dolphins, and the colors black and orange.
